This is crazy that Food Network doesn't realize that most of the reviews on this recipe are from ticked viewers. Like most of you have already said, FN is for people to look to for great recipes, you watch the show, and your mouth is watering, so you go on FN.com to find the recipe. If I wanted to have a disco party, heck yeah I would make these! Only, how? I am dissapointed, because they left me with questions on how to make the cupcake look like a disco ball. I recognized that it as fondant, but what percentage of the viewers would? Besides, FN is supposed to ahve easy stuff. Who can go and buy fondant and coloring to dust it with at their local Wal-Mart?

I agree with all of you, except for the rather smug comment from the "experienced baker" who had "no trouble" People look to food network as a "how to" to get tips and tricks, and learn how to do things. After reading all of these comments, and seeing that they have basically been ignored by the food network, it makes me wonder if they even give a hoot about the fans and readers. This is not the "Isn't this great, betcha wish YOU could do it" Network. Shame on your editors and shame on the smarmy mean spirited commentor who insulted all of us.

I own both of Elisa's books and she does amazing things with cake. This recipe I tried as a layer cake and baked in two 8 inch pans, instead of the cupcakes.. One has to use dutch processed cocoa (I use Valrhona, as does Elisa or things won't work correctly. And I can't stress enough how important it is to use a scale. Let the cakes rest for a while, as they will be too delicate to use 30 minutes after the baking. You will get a fudgy, rich chocolate cake with great texture!

I am very dissapointed there are no instructions on the silver disco balls. While some may understand by looking at the picture, not all of us do. It would be really nice see how they are made.

As others have mentioned, why post a recipe for Disco Ball cupcakes without instructions on how to make them look like disco balls. C'mon Food Network, wouldn't you think this was disappointing to your readers. If you could post the rest of the recipe it would be much appreciated.

Okay, what we have here are basic instructions on how to make a cupcake. But like someone else commented, where are the instructions for the disco ball decorations? I see that a more experienced baker knew that it was dusted fondant, but what about the less experienced baker? I mean, come on. If you don't know how to cook or bake, what better resource than food network, right? Wrong.

I agree with the other commentator: Food network missed the boat by publishing this recipe without the information on the decorations (e.g. what was used, what can be used if you're not experienced with fondant or don't have access to luster dust - like me on Guam!

Yes, well, what is obvious to some is not to others. I am an experienced cake decorator and so it was clear to me how they were done.

But many people are just learning or not familiar with a particular technique. I think that Food Network should publish the entire process, not just a part of it. After all, anyone can make a cupcake; it's the decoration that makes this one special. It's kind of "cheap" on FN's part.

Even though it does not mention the ingredients for the top of the cupcake, it is obvious that it is rolled fondant with luster dust painted over it. I had no problem making this recipe and I will definitely make them for New Years 2008.

ok, im trying to make this recipe here and the instructions are very vague. these are called discoball cupcakes because they look like disco balls, yet the very decoration that is on them is not even described in the instructions AT ALL. so then whats the point? i'd appreciate some further info.
