I was so excited to make this cake..when I was done it looked amazing. What a huge dissapointment! I can honestly say it was uneatable...my son even tossed it in the gargage. Dont waste your time or money on the ingredients.

Now, I'm not the greatest chef in the world but, this cake was so sweet! It was like the cake batter was the frosting and when that struck me, I had no intentions of even making the frosting. It tasted awful and well it just wasn't the velvet cake I was expecting.

This recipe was very easy to prepare. The cake was really nothing to write home about. Just blah. I've had other red velvet cakes before, and they were delicious! ...A distinct flavor to them. This particular cake recipe is boring. On the upside, the frosting was good. It could've used a bit less sugar though. I didn't think it was going to be enough frosting for all three layers, so I doubled the recipe just in case. There was no need though. The original frosting recipe amounts are just fine the way it's called out. Would I make this particular recipe again? No. I'll keep searching.

I made this last night. I had read the reviews beforehand, so, I took into consideration the lack of flavor.
With that in mind, I used 2 tablespoons of cocoa instead of the teaspoon. I was a little surprised to see that the recipe does not include salt, so, i added 1/2 teaspoon of salt as well.
it was wonderful. so moist and tender...best red velvet cake that I have made from scratch. I will definitely be making this one again!

The cake was too moist...i tried to cook to cook it for around 40 minutes and it was still too moist. I think there was too much canola oil. It also had no flavor at all. The icing was awesome! but that about it!

all you could taste in the cake was flour. i didn't have the thickness problem as some of the other reviews but the taste wasn't good. the cake came out looking great the flavor was just bad, the kids wouldnt even eat it! the icing on the other hand was great and VERY easy to make.

This racipe made an awesome frosting but the problem was that the cake had no flavor at all and tasted simply like cardboard...Cake out the window and frosting is here to stay.

I made this cake last week for my family and it was delicious! I had never tried to make a cake entirely from scratch before, but I followed the recipe exactly and everyone was very impressed. Definitely take the advice at the end of the recipe and make 1 and 1/2 portions of the frosting - you will need it to cover your cake adequately. This is a great recipe if you're looking for a moist, rich, delicious dessert!

My husband and 3.5 year old daughter made this cake together. It turned out exactly like the picture, and tasted just as good as it looks. I posted pictures of them making it on my blog www.vivayne.com/posts. I would definitely recommend this cake, it was light, moist and delicious. It didn't last in our house for very long. One thing to note is that red velvet cakes are very hit or miss, they are a very unique flavored cake, so either you love it or hate it. ... also it depends on the recipe, and who makes it, so keep trying them until you find one you like :

I have to agree with the other person on what the heck did I do. I followed the recipe to a tee and it came out like a pancake. I like the frosting but you have to work fast with it because its a little runny but it was really good tasting but the cake on the other hand was so so. I don't think that I will make this one again!
