    This really was not very good. I agree with previous comment, the cakes come out flat. I had made a "Paula Deen" Red Velvet Cake last Christmas using a recipe from this website, and I thought this was the same one, since it had Paula Deen's name in it. Unfortunately, this is NOT the Paula Deen one, the actual one is listed under "Grandmother Paula's Red Velvet Cake". Use that one, instead, and its MUCH MUCH better. I don't know why the OP put Paula's name on it, but it's not her recipe!

    Extremely disappointed; I followed this recipe to the letter and the cakes were flat as pancakes.

    The cake was really moist! I used boiled beet water instead of the food coloring. I also decreased the amount of oil to 1 cup and replaced it with the beat water. The color wasn't as bold as Paula's but the taste was perfect.

    This cake was very dry and not sweet at all! The icing is the best thing about this cake.This cake was flatter than any other cake I have made. I will not make it again!

    Amazing recipe! I use it all the time! Just for extra flavor and moisture I add 1 stick of butter (1/2 a cup, an extra teaspoon of cocoa powder, and alil extra vanilla! delicious frosting as well!

    I did not read the reviews on this before making it. Huge mistake. Mine had a flavor, rancid although, but my cake turned out flatter than any other i have ever made. Considering I also made neiman-marcus cookies, haystacks, pumpkin pies, and chess bars this day and all of which turned out great, i do not think my ingredients had anything to do with the outcome. I came back to the recipe afterward and made sure I hadn't left anything out, then read the reviews, then registered with the site just to make this comment.

    Tried this recipe...I think it turned out pretty good. I added more vanilla flavoring and to give it more taste but over all it turned out pretty good for my first one. I took it to work and my coworkers loved it! So on to the next receipe for me!! Think I'm enjoying this baking thing..
