The cellophane bags (as they're called if you search for them at craft storescan also be found at Hobby Lobby and are very inexpensive. I believe Martha Stewart and Williams-Sonoma (catalog or online onlymay offer them as well, often seasonally, but more expensive.

You can purchase glacene bags at your local craft store - I bought mine at Michael's.
These cookies are to die for!! I added green food coloring and used a shamrock cookie cutter to take to work for St. Patty's Day.

I have been on the search for buttery and crispy cookie like this and especially a chocolate version so when I found Ina's I thought it was a perfect base so I decided to try it with cocoa powder. Subtract a 1/4 cup of flour with cocoa powder and you have a chocolate version that is just as delicious. Next time I think I'll add diced chocolate as well for extra chocolateyness!

Great recipe, I've used several times now, Ina is the best. But does anyone know where I could find the glassine bags Ina used for these cookies? I don't mind buying in bulk. Thanks

I love Ina. I pretty much never change her recipes because I have nothing but respect for her and she knows so much more than I do. BUT when reading this recipe it seemed to have, can you believe this?, too little butter? But I made it up to the point of putting the dough in the fridge. It was too dry and crumbly for me to work with it. So... I melted one additional stick of butter and put everything back into the mixer and incorporated the new butter into the dough. The cookies were terrific. Nutty and buttery as shortbread should be. I NEVER second guess Ina, and so who could believe that I would out-butter my butter idol?? But that is minor and Ina's flavors were fabulous as usual. It is a great recipe and I will make it again...and again...and again..

I love shortbread and these are the best I've ever had. I added 1/2 pecans and 1/2 dried cranberries, and received raves at the wedding shower I gave.

I always love Ina's recipes but this one is exceptional. I have never had better shortbread cookies. Next time I will try it with lemon zest and no nuts for something different. They are also very easy to make; just make sure to not overbake them.
