Pinata Cake

Don't take a whack at this guy — he's dessert! To make the edible donkey, Food Network Magazine stacked chocolate loaves for the body and attached ice cream cones for the legs, ears and snout.

Spaghetti-and-Meatball Cake

Chocolate cake "meatballs," piped yellow frosting noodles, homemade strawberry sauce and grated white chocolate "tomato sauce and Parmesan" make this after-dinner treat look exactly like the real meal.

Pencil Cake

Using little more than store-bought pound cake, frosting and food coloring, Food Network Magazine created this super-sized pencil to celebrate the new school year.

Carrot Cake

You know those extra jellybeans that never get eaten? Put them to good use making this easy "carrot cake." It looks so good even the healthiest of eaters will have to try a bite.

Popcorn Cake

Dinner and a movie, anyone? Use store-bought caramel corn and colored fondant to make this popcorn cake come alive. Just don't eat the whole bag!

Candy Bar Cake

If there's one problem with candy bars, it's that they're never quite big enough. This cake should do the trick: Top store-bought pound cake with chocolate buttercream and dulce de leche mixed with roasted peanuts to create the look of chewy nougat and gooey peanut-caramel filling.

Nacho Normal Cheesecake

Top homemade cheesecake with pie-crust chips, then drizzle them with orange-tinted sour cream that looks just like melted cheese. Don't forget the salsa (jam) and chiles and olives (licorice)!

Ice Cream Steak Frites

We wouldn't normally recommend meat and potatoes for dessert, but in this case, it's the perfect treat for Dad on Father's Day: a deconstructed ice cream cake that looks like steak with a side of fries.

Strawberry Pie Cake

To make this two-in-one strawberry shortcake and strawberry pie, we baked vanilla cake in a pie plate, then topped it with fresh strawberry filling and a lattice crust.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Cake

You don't need special equipment for this oversize sandwich look-alike. A 9-inch-square cake pan is perfect for baking faux sandwich bread. We just trimmed the top of the cake and kept the browned edges, which look like crust!

Candy Bucket Cake

To make this classic jack-o'-lantern candy bucket, we stacked two Bundts and one round cake to form a pumpkin shape and covered it with orange frosting and fondant. We carved out the eyes, nose and smile and filled them with dark-chocolate frosting, then added a licorice handle and a pile of candy to the top.

Cheese Wheel Cake

To make the look-alike, we rounded the edges of a basic layer cake and covered it with red fondant, then sliced out a wedge and spread the cut sides with pale yellow frosting. The finishing touch: We put the cake on a cheese board with cookies and sugared grapes.

Flowerpot Cake

To create this cake, we wrapped basic chocolate layers in fondant tinted to look like terra-cotta (a combination of red and orange food coloring plus cocoa powder makes the perfect hue). We topped the pot with "dirt" made of crumbled cake trimmings, then planted edible flowers and fresh mint to finish the job.

Guacamole Cake

This cake looks like a traditional Mexican mortar (called a molcajete) filled with chunky guacamole. To make it, we baked a chocolate cake in a bowl and attached three cupcakes for the legs. We covered the whole thing with frosting and ground cookies to look like stone, then we filled it with green-tinted, cherry-studded ice cream.

Lobster Roll Cake

The top-split bun is a toasted pound cake, and the lobster salad is strawberry ambrosia with chopped green licorice that plays the part of celery. The cakes are small, so make a few and serve them in paper baskets with gummy lemon slices.

Giant Ice Cream Sandwich

Make room in your freezer: This supersized ice cream sandwich is as big as 50 standard ones and contains 4 1/2 quarts of ice cream!

Get the Recipe: Giant Ice Cream Sandwich

Caramel Apple Cake

To make it, we trimmed a four-layer cake into an apple shape, then painted it with food coloring and wrapped it with a sheet of rolled-out caramel candies. The finishing touches: crushed nuts and a big wooden dowel.
