Made the sandwich, didn't bother with the ale-jus. I liked it, the kids liked it, husband didn't like it. He usually doesn't like anything that has detectable onions. Anyways - I'm glad I tried it!!!

EXCELLENT SANDWICH! Awful jus. Jus was bitter & inedible...but that said, it's COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY, this sandwich is FANTASTIC! Not sure what people mean by "a lot of work", because this was as easy as any panini. Cooked the onions & apples until slightly caramelized & spread some whole-grain dijon mustard on the bread.
    We will make this often.

Love this pastrami recipe and would love to have the full experience, is there an alternative to beer in the sauce?

I have been following Emily ever since I saw her on Food Network and continue to make her recipes from here and her blog. I have made these panini several times and shared them at work also. Everyone loved them and could not get over the ingredients. I love a good reuben but I have to admit I would rather have one of these if given a choice. She is a sweet and talented girl that I am sure we will see much more of in the near future.......keep up the good work Emily....I look forward to eating many more of your wonderful creations!

I've made this a couple of times and it never fails. In fact, I think this is what I'm going to make for our family for Xmas eve! YUM.

If I'm going to put that much work into making a SANDWICH, it had better be the BEST sandwich I've EVER tasted. It wasn't. I mean, yeah, it was pretty good, but I really don't get all the five stars. I've made tastier paninis that were WAY simpler.

The sandwich was out of this world good, the entire family loved it and I'll be making it again and again. I'd skip the jus, I just don't think it needed it and the rosemary was a bit overpowering. The best part was the apples, next time I'll make using at least 1 more sweet apple and that's what really makes this sandwich! Reviewed here: http://youreverydaymama.blogspot.com/

Be very careful not to overcook the onions or it will ruin the whole sandwich.

Overall this is delicious and I would definitely make again. My husband loves pastrami and he gave the thumbs up too. The apples and onions were a perfect mix and nothing overpowered. Be sure to use a decent pastrami from your deli and not the pre-packaged flavorless stuff. Simply awesome!

    Suggested Changes:
-We would pass on the jus (although tasty. It just seemed a little strange and unnecessary to treat this as a french dip type of samby.
-Decrease or sub butter w/ canola or pam where you can. Again, not sure it was all necessary.
