For me, this didn't live to all the outstanding reviews. I'll stick to the original sauerbratan using a pot roast which I don't find that time consuming. I won't
    do this again.

I enjoyed it. It didn't knock my socks off but it was good. I may do the cabbage again; the potatoes and steak, probably not

Made it for dinner one night. Substituted with things I had on hand... aged white vinegar.. chicken seasoning instead of steak (we were in the middle of a snow storm & I wasn't going out!.. marinated for 10 hours (mixed it up that morning. My daughter had a friend spend the night and ALL plates were cleaned! Her friend even had me send the recipe home to her mother the next day! Everything was wonderful! I went light on the horseradish out of fear.. but won't next time. The sauce for the meat was excellent! Thanks Rachel!

Made this for my husband for our anniversary and we both really liked it except for the cabbage/apple/onion thing. Too vinegary for our taste, but that's german food for ya. Loved the sauce! Absolutely delish!

Prepared everything exactly as the recipe suggested: Flank Steak, Potatoes, Red Cabbage, Sauce. It was excellent. This could easily be prepared the day before it is served. I would probably marinate the steak 4-6 hours next time.

The flank steak was XLNT,I didn't know flank was that tender. The sauce was very good. The potatoes were good and the cabbage was very good. Probably would have taken an hour if I did it all at once. But I broke it up during that day to be able to enjoy company too.

The meat was EXCELLENT, the cabbage was really good and so was the gravy. These I will make again, but the potatoes were not good at all. I even used half the required amount of horseradish and it was still the only thing you could taste. This was an expensive meal and took almost an hour and a half instead of 30 min. All in all my husband and I really enjoyed it and my kids Loved the meat but not much else.

I made this recipe tonight and thought it was very good, especially for the short amount of time it took to make. I have made sauerbraten that had to be marrinated for days and an Old Word Sauerbraten that only need to be marrinated movernight. This recipe was almost as good. In reading reviews I was surprised it only got 3 stars. I had a German mother-in-law who always used ginger-snaps in here pot roast gravy, and it was delious. I did not make Rachel's smached potatoes, but I didmake her quick potato and carrot latkes(which I have made several times and they are quick and excellent. The ginger snap gray is also very good. If you want sauerbraten and you don't have alot of time this is a good recipe. Another hit for Rachel!

My husband HATES vinegar, I didn't tell him that the marinade was made with cider vinegar. He LOVED it. We've had it 3 times already. I loved the smells, tastes and quick & easiness of this recipe. I have 5 kids and finding something everyone likes and doeesn't take hours is GREAT!
