My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the entire meal. No, I'm not from Germany, no, I've never been a chef in a 5 star restaurant, but yes, I do understand that the premise of the show was the fact that this is a 30-minute meal. Come on people...if you want an authentic sauerbraten where you have to marinate the meat for 3 days, then don't look to "30-Minute Meals" for your recipes! And if your sauce still had gingerbread bits in it, you didn't cook it long enough. Start it as soon as you put the meat on and you'll have a smooth consistency. If you really know how to cook, you also know how to improvise. Like I said, I'm no expert, but for those non-German-non-5-star-chefs who want a good meal, this is it.

I'm am by no means a chef or food critic but I do love eating and, more importantly, I love cooking. I was brought up on polish/german dishes and after seeing this episode, I knew I was going to try it. I thought it was very good...not great...but very good. It held up the next day as well.

The only thing that didn't work for me was the show's title....'30 minute meals'. The show has everything ready to go right then......And in reality, that's not the case. It took me more like 60 minutes. Not that I cared...like I said, I like to cook. But my wife wasn't too thrilled because she was hungry before I started preparing! And don't get me started on the dishes you'll use... :-

Sorry, I don't mean to be negative. I thought the mess and time was worth the taste. If you like sour cabbage and saurebraten style beef, you should like this. If you've never tried something like this, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't for you.

The only thing that I cared for in this recipe was the mashed potatoes, and they were just okay. The meat tasted strange since it wasn't marinated long enough

TO ACHEIVE IT YOU MUST SOAK THE MEAT IN A BRINE FOR 3 DAYS GRAVY IS MADE FROM FLOUR MIXED WITH SUGAR THAT IS BROWNED IN A PAN, THEN MIXED WITH THE BRINE AND EATEN WITH POTATOE BALLS. PLEASE STAY OUT OF GERMANY AND GO BACK TO BUTCHERING ITALIAN AND SOUTHERN DISHES

I made this dish for a group of friends, since Rachael says that "you can really entertain with this guys" I cannot even tell you the embarrassment I suffered. One of my friends is an accomplished cook and used to work in a 5 star restaurant and wanted to know what the soggy bits were. My boyfriend warned me against serving this to our friends, but I said, that I always trust Rachael's recipes, she's never let me down. Not only do I have to suffer the humilation of serving my friends this slop and they'll probably never come over again, I have to listen to my boyfriend go on and on how right he was. Thanks alot.

My sister had the guts to actually make this. I told her it didn't sound good, but she wanted something simple that was similar to sauerbraten she has had at an Octoberfest. This wasn't it!! Not even close. We all picked at our food and then finally gave up and made grilled cheese sandwiches. I don't think you can "mock" sauerbraten......it mocks you back. Rachael, please go back to your older style of cooking and leave these new combos alone!
