I'm a fan of Rachael Ray for the simplicity of what she does, however this recipe is bland, VERY bland. I stayed measure by measure exactly with the recipe, and though I went with Rachael's beef option, I do not think her lamb option would have been much of an improvement. The recipe is simply lacking flavor, and would only be an ok choice for very picky eaters, the "hamburger helper" crowd, or children, but not for someone wanting a really tasty meal.

I made this last night and my husband and 6 year old loved it. I used butter gold potatoes and left the skins on and the mashed potatoes were perfect.

I loved this, but I did add more seasonings to it. I always add about a tbsp of balsamic vinegar and more worcestershire to the gravy. A little vinegar can make food "pop". I add defrosted peas and carrots to meat and season with SALT, pepper, onion powder, and paprika. I add gravy then taste and alter seasonings until I love it. I don't add egg or cream to potatoes, but I do add more cream cheese. I love it like this, but as written it did need more seasoning and flavors.

Loved this! I used sour cream & half'n half in the mashed potatoes (it's what I had on hand. Didn't have peas so I used frozen carrots. Great, tasty way to use up left over potatoes after Thanksgiving!

Very good! My husband really liked it. I did add a little fresh thyme & instead of the fresh carrot, I stirred in a bag of frozen mixed veggies. Once I added the broth to the beef and veggies, I let it simmer for about 5 minutes before putting in the casserole dish. Also, I made a little extra gravy, about a cup and a half. Loved it & great use of left over mashed potatoes!!

This recipe is awesome! I make it on my lunch hour so it's ready for dinner. I am not a huge mashed potato fan, but LOVE this inexpensive recipe. Truly yummy! I like the cream cheese better than the sour cream in the potatoes as I have tried it both ways. For me to make it twice in the last month, it must be easy, tasty, and satisfying plus I love having left-overs. It didn't even make it to the oven. I found just heating it quickly in the microwave works just fine.

One of my favorite Irish dishes, especially Rachael's recipe, because it's so easy!

OK, so maybe it was a LITTLE longer than 30 minutes; it was worth it! Used this recipe to use up some leftover moose tenderloin - added it to the vegetables after I sauteed them so as not to overcook my already cooked meat. I also cooked at 350 for about 20 minutes as I was not quite sure when my husband would be home from the football game. Major comfort food; will make again and I guess you could really add any meat you want. I read all the other changes folks made, but really, it was excellent, excellent! as written. Thanks, Rachel.
