i don't know who's idea it was to put disgusting dijon mustard in this dish, or to use chicken stock instead of beef stock, or even the sour cream addiction. oh and serving with dumplings? how about sauerkraut, red cabbage, mashed potatoes and a roll, thats what its supposed to be served with. oh and i cant stand half of these other reviews. i am glad you complained too, but it is made with a pickle slice in it, and the lady who's mother-in-law is from germany you're mother in law is a liar because this recipe is only a few ingredients wrong.

I decided to give this recipe a try, because my husband is German, and I wanted to make him one of his favorite dishes. What a mistake! The meat was tough, and it was a complete disaster. My mother in law was kind enough to share her recipe for rouladen with me, and it took about 2 and a half hours to make, but was completely worth the wait! The key to a good rouladen is slow simmering of the meat, not torching and ruining it in 30 minutes. Some things are worth the wait!!!

Liked the flavor of the sauce, but the pickle didn't enhance the rouladen.

This is the ugliest thing I've ever seen in my life. I'm usually adventurous with food, but this was awful.

This came out SO well and brought back memories of similar cabbage dishes we'd had in Germany. I wasn't sure how it would taste warm but as Rachael would say, it was DELISH! :

My mom has been cooking roladen since I was a kid and amazing how a few extra/odd ingredients can ruin a dish. Leave out the pickle & sour cream. Use beef broth for a better & richer flavor.

I made this for my family and we all agreed that the pickle was strange. The dill flavour from the pickle was nice, but having the actual pickle in there was not something that we cared for. I will probably make this again but will leave out the pickle and just add some dill instead.

I've made rouladen the long way and it took hours. This quick and easy recipe is delicious and sooo easy to prepare. I've made it a number of times and have shared the recipe with friends. This sure beats being in the kitchen all day.

This rouladen was wonderful! It took much less time than the original that we make every week!
