one star... just because they wont allow fractions of stars. The people that gave this 5 stars must have kitty litter on their noses from eating the appetizer left out of the business end of their best friend in the world. Garlic + salt + black pepper ... (are we having steak??? ... + sugar... (O... K... i don't know where you are going but i'll hang in there and see + GRAPEFRUIT!!! WTF?!? but you have to bake it, so it's hot also.

    HOT @$$ MESS

I decided to make this after liking Alton Brown's Grapefruit Brulee. I trusted him to add salt to raise the grapefruit/sweetness to a new level.

This recipe was horrible. I used grillmates as the grill seasoning and followed the recipe to the T. It tasted like a barbequed grapefruit. Woodsy and smoky and nauseating. The aftertaste was black pepper and sugar.

Upside: It may be a great dieting food because I don't feel like eating anything ever again.

I have made grapefruit this way for years with regular sugar or brown sugar and it is a great treat; you could add a little cinnamon but grill seasoning is absolutely absurd.

The simple solution seems to be:

if you are going to be serving this for breakfast leave out the grill seasoning (too much for a tender morning palate, makes your coffee hurt your tongue

if you are serving dinner, include the grill seasoning and even cut down a bit on the sugar (actually makes a breakfasty thing more dinnerlike-spicy but tart, kind of a salad.

Brunch could go either way, depending on the menu.

Grilled grapefruit and brown sugar is delicious. I remember grandma serving it when I was a little bitty girl. The grill seasoning was out of synch with the delicious flavors of grapefruit and brown sugar.

This recipe was simple enough to make, but i did not enjoy the taste of the grill seasoning on the grapefruit at all. Garlic and grapefruit do not mix well at all. Even though i added more brown sugar than seasoning, the spices (especially the garlic was overpowering.

This recipe sounding so interesting I just had to try it. The brown sugar on top really gave the grapefruit a nice texture. Next time I'm not going to use the grill seasoning mix...it was strange tasting thyme and garlic while eating a grapefruit.
