Easy

Ingredients
  • 5 bananas
  • 8 popsicle sticks
  • 3 cups good quality chocolate bar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, cut up
  • Toppings:
  • Chopped nuts
  • Toasted coconut
  • Cookie crumbles
  • Colored sprinkles or chocolate jimmies
  • Mini chocolate candies or mini semi sweet chips, for chocoholics
  • Granola
Directions

Peel and cut the bananas in half crosswise, so that you have 8 pieces. Place peeled bananas on sticks. Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper. Place bananas on the cookie sheet in the freezer, keep them in there as long as possible, at least 10 minutes. Heat chocolate bits with butter in a double boiler over low heat until the chocolate melts and butter is incorporated. Dip the chilled bananas in chocolate and roll with your favorite topping. Chill or freeze until ready to serve.

I made these for my grandchildren, but I think their parents enjoyed them equally. I had some ganache left over and used that. I just warmed the ganache in the microwave for about 20 seconds then dipped the frozen bananas, then, dipped in sprinkles, and put them in the freezer for later in the day. What fun! item not reviewed by moderator and published
These were really yummy and easy. I think it's REALLY crucial to fully refreeze these again after the dipping because otherwise the chocolate coat will slide off the banana like a sleeve item not reviewed by moderator and published
If you have five bananas and you cut them in half then you will have *10* pieces, not eight. Interesting idea, but how long will they keep for? item not reviewed by moderator and published
I'd like to add a couple of tips to this recipe that I've learned from experience. First, it's really important to let your bananas ripen until they are covered with *small* brown spots. That ensures that their sugar level is optimal. Next, when you freeze them, do not place them in a freezer bag. Moisture that evaporates from the bananas as they freeze will result in ice crystals on the bananas if it is trapped within a plastic bag. This ice will melt into the chocolate when you dip the bananas and cause the chocolate clump. If you do see ice crystals on the frozen bananas, brush it off prior to dipping them. In addition to being a great tasting treat, frozen bananas are also a good food source. The first night we made them they were wonderful!! My only advice is not to keep them in the freezer for more than just one day, because we did and the banana got so hard that you could barely bit down on it. item not reviewed by moderator and published

I have said before that I love anything with bacon or garlic. This DOES NOT have any of those but I definitely CAN NOT LIVE WITHOUT CHOCOLATE EITHER. I HAVE TO eat chocolate at least 5 times a wk or I freak out! I loved this because it also had my favorite fruit: banana! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I've never tried this recipe, but I can't wait! I've even come up with a series of different ideas: Use Nutella instead of chocolate, and try it with different fruits, like strawberrys or apples. Also, it might be cool to swirl in peanut butter. item not reviewed by moderator and published
