I've made many of Rachael's sammies and really loved them all, but this particular one disappointed me a bit. I'd never cooked flat iron steaks before, so I was excited to try one. I had to make a trip to my area's specialty food store to find the steak because my local grocer doesn't carry them--and wouldn't cut one for me. I followed the recipe's instruction but found the steak very tough. The greater disappointment came with the sauce. Too runny, not cheesy enough. On the other hand, the mixture of onions, cubanelle and pickled pepper rings was fantastic, so I will make it for other sandwiches. Overall, not a terrible recipe, but not one of my favorites.

A leaner cut than skirt steak and similar in use - try flank steak. I feel it is best cooked med-rare or rare (your choice and cut across the grain like the other two cuts mentioned for this recipe.
I love sandwiches and this one from Rachael is a hit in my book.

I was thinking of making this sandwich for my family one night since my husband and boys LOVE steak. I'm not a red meat eater so, cooking with steak makes me a little nervous since I don't really know how to cook it nor do I want to mess it up. I came to the comment reviews to get some insight on the recipe and It seems this recipe has some mixed reviews, but I think I'll use my better judgment and try it anyways.
I think it's really sad that this awesome food website has turned into a high school bashing center. Everyone has the right to their own opinions on the featured recipes and chefs, but have respect for those chefs and for the fans who are turning to the comment reviews for advice on the recipes. Drop the insults and just stick to the recipes. Instead of being immature and insulting, maybe offer some alterations to the recipes if you feel you have found substitutes that work better. High school is over....we're all adults now. No one here wants to read bashing.

Ummm...I looked down here for insight on the ease of preparation/tastiness of this recipe and instead I get this nonsense? Can we all please just grow up? Please stick to the site protocol and comment on the recipe rather than insult the chef. If you want to bash or criticize the chef, then do the rest of us a favor and find another forum to do so. Now back to the recipe...I cannot find flat iron steak at my local supermarket. I just saw that someone else used skirt steak, but I do not like the fattiness of that cut. Does anyone have another suggestion? Thanks!

This is my first time on here and I was discouraged by all the comments. I make things all the time saying my mom or so in so made this or gave me the recipe. I never would have thought it would be so easy to make these sandwiches. I need people like rr because I am not a good cook. I also think and have told people in casual conversation that they are crazy for not liking chocolate because I feel that it is a life saver. I'm not putting them down or talking down to them. i need rr to tell me things to do because I'm lucky if I don't burn eggs. I also don't have a sandwich night but many people do many different things. We have left over night once a week. I also have weird little sayings for things or I say things funny like tommario instead of tomorrow. I also don't understand how she can control the tone of her voice. I think that if you are going to pick someone completely apart and misconstrue something they say than maybe you just really don't like them and should probably not have anything to do with them. Several of sound like you really don't like her. Maybe you shouldn't watch. I don't Jerry springer and find it offensive so I

I also saw her comment on Ina Gaten's desert, before it was deleted. In her defense, though, she did not claim to be a better cook than Ina, she seemed to be upset because Ina used alcohol in all her recipes. She, in my opinion acted like someone who wanted to make something Ina made, but was unable to, because of the alcohol. I have seen other messages from her on FN regarding the alcohol use. I am a t-totaller, and I also find it hard to make anything Ina makes, as much as I respect her as a cook. Some of her food has bottles of some alcohol in them, and although the food looks good, I can't think of what to swap the alcohol for. I have found that alll FN talents use alcohol, but some use small enough amounts to be able to leave it out of the dish. Even in here, although I wouldn't talk in the same way as Kamelia about it, she said that it was not original. When we watch next FN star, they tell the contestants that all their food need to be original and their own recipes. Anyways... I couldn't find Flat Iron Steak, so I used flan steak instead. I love the bell peppers on Philly cheese steak, so I added some bell peppers, and I made cheese sauce for the sandwich. It was lovely, but I would have to say that the amount of cheese on Rachel's sandwich and the way it looked was not so appetizing, and hence 4 stars.

Very easy and quick. I'm a slow chopper but it didn't take much more than 30 min. Very nice nod to Philly Cheese Steaks. Used skirt steak because it looked good. My ciabatta was not too thick so it worked out great. My men gave it thumbs up and want it in the sandwich night rotation.

I am rating the recipe, as I have already made it before RR even thought of it. I find that the amount of cheese and sloppiness is off putting. I don't hate or even dislike RR. I only complained about RR, as I don't know any other way to ensure that she knows the way she speaks is insulting. It is supposed to be for her to better herself. I am both Null and Kamelia. I have no idea why it came up with Null. I watch RR to get ideas for fast meals. I don't generally follow recipes, and frequently swap ingredients with ones I like. You all give yourselves the right to call me names, and insult me, but I am not allowed to pass on a message to the host? You all are the ones who need to grow up. Perhaps you don't care to be called "crazy" if you don't like an ingredient, but the majority of people don't take kindly to being insulted unless they agree with someone. Oh whole we are at it, she tries to convince me that everyone has at least one sandwich night a week. Nobody I know does, and I know a lot of people worldwide.

Very nice dish, but I just used a skirt steak instead. Very easy to make and was just wonderful. The potatoes were very tasty as well. Thank you, Rachael, you are wonderful. Notice how I rated the dish and not the showor hostess which is what the review section is for. Please keep your nasty words to yourself. Keep up the good work Rachael, you're a breath of fresh air.

Null, RR's show is geared specifically for beginners...if you feel that you have passed this stage, then simply move on. There are constantly new cooks, as you were once yourself, that find value in her shows. There is no need to tear her down...if she annoys you then....grow up....change the channel....problem solved.
I have tried this recipe, and it is delicious. Those of you who are new cooks, don't let a grumbler sway you from trying this recipe.
