If you like canned deviled ham, you will love this. Only add some Miracle Whip. It didn't need the cheese.

I was hesitant to try this soup for my New Englander husband. HE RAVED ABOUT IT! I omitted celery, and took the advice of another reviewer to cook the bacon longer. PERFECT! Husband has begged for this to be a staple for us.
    Did not try deviled ham.
    Thanks, Rachel.

This was a great one, easy to prepare and the taste was authentic. I will make this one of my quick and satisfy comfort foods.

I just made this clam chowda and the deviled ham melts tonight for my family, mom and mom in law. They all loved it! This was the first time I have ever made chowder and I couldn't believe that it came out this terrific. I do have to say that I did do a couple of things differently. I added a bunch of corn and at the end I had to add some thickener. It was somewhat thick, but I wanted it to be really thick. With the deviled ham, I added some sweet relish and a good spoonful of miracle whip and topped it off with swiss cheese. I will definitely be making this chowder and the ham melts again! Thanks Rachael!

This was the very best clam chowder I've ever made or had! Very rich - so this recipe goes a long way. Will definitely serve during the holidays! Didn't make the toppers - no need with this great recipe! Thanks Rachel!

But it was just ok. Maybe using clam juice in combo with the chicken stock would help it have more of a clam chowder flavor. It was good....just not great.

I like to use locally grown produce, so added diced red potatoes instead of store-bought. And because of food allergies, skipped the roux step (flour and butter and thickened the soup instead with an immersion blender. Delish! Better than the chowder at Monterey's pier, our old favorite.
