I made this the other night for my husband who loves chowder. He hasn't stopped talking about it to anyone who will listen. Need I say more?

I tried this recipe out because my husband and son love clam chowder, I now have to double the recipe. They ask for it all of the time. My son now wants it cooked for all of his college friends also. It is very easy and much better than the canned stuff.

(Note - didn't try the ham and cheese melts - just the soup

I was expecting something kind of creamier and saltier (like a thick New England clam chowder, but mine came out a bit brothier and I tasted more veggies than I'm used to in a clam chowder. However, the thyme added a new twist that was still great. I'll make this again!

The flavor was good however I plan to cook the bacon longer and use less water next time because it wasn't super thick like I prefer.

Well i love rachel's recipes and when i saw her make this one, i was a little nervous. I never knew clam chowdah having hot sauce in it. I am a New Englander girl and never tried it in my classic clam chowder and this recipe was so wicked easy and best of all so wicked yummy!
