The breading didn't stick to the shrimp well, as other people have reported. I coated them with flour before the egg whites, and that helped a little.
The five-spice powder has a pretty strong flavor that I found overwhelming. I'd use less next time-- maybe 3/4tsp.
These would be great with some kind of dipping sauce. I was thinking something sweet and spicy, maybe apricot or peach preserves with chili powder.

Man do I love coconut shrimp... period. So easy I don't even order it in restaurants any more because I know I can make it cheaper, faster and tastier!

I have tested about half the coconut shrimp recipes on this network and this one, in my opinion, is not so good. Something just doesn't taste right. The very best coconut shrimp recipe is from the Neeleys. Despite my dislike of the obnoxious couple, they do have some great recipes and their coconut shrimp is out of this world. Trust me, make theirs and save yourself a lot of disappointment not to mention money. The recipe works every time and whenever I make it, nothing but rave reviews..Sorry Rach

I love this shrimp. I am pregnant and I was craving coconut shrimp. I was unable to find a resturant that sold it that was close by. This has cured my craving. Well for now. This is the best coconut shrimp I have ever had and I will continue to make it for myself and my family and frineds today it was just for me. Tank you Rachael Ray!!!

These just were not appetizing at all. Very easy to make, but the flavoring was just off.

I've tried a lot of coconut shrimp recipes, but this one is the best by far! The Chinese 5 Spice blend really adds a nice flavor and I never have left overs. For those who experience problems with the coconut not sticking, try dipping your shrimp in flour first, then the egg mixture, then the coconut and bread crumb mixture. I found the egg whites stick to the shrimp better with the first coating of flour. Also, there are a lot of nice sauces out there to try: 6 oz jar orange marmalade, 1/4 cup sweet Asian Chili sauce and the juice of 1 lime. You can use the hot Asian Chili sauce for an extra kick!! Delicious!!!

In theory, this sounded very good. I just don't know why the coconut would not stick to the shrimp. I should have tried it first before I tried to make it for guests. My mistake.

This is complicated first time, but gets easier with use. I even substituted chicken as some family members do not like fish or shell fish. That even turned out okay. Will make whenever we want something special.
