This is my first time making jambalaya. It went together easy, just do all your prep work before starting. i started my water for the rice, the same time i started cooking the jambalaya sauce. Both were done at the same time. The jambalaya sauce had more broth than what i thought it should. I'm not complaining, it was so yummy with the rice. I will definitely make this again.

I noticed that a lot of you who think this is great do not live in the South so you don't know what real Jambalaya is supposed to taste like. I'm from South Carolina and have several New Orleans friends who have fixed the "real thing." This is a good dish but not Jambalaya.

We love this recipe....in fact we have it for Christmas eve every year! The only tip is if your using frozen shrimp, thaw them in water, ice and a ton of sea salt. I learned this tip from another food network chef and it plumps the shrimp and makes them taste so fresh.

Hubby & I tried this and really loved the flavors. We too change things up and like more heat by adding chopped jalapeno and chopped garlic. The flavors work well together and it's a good basic recipe to use and expand so it's easily changed, depending on what you have in the pantry, freezer & fridge. Rachael, thank you for providing everyday cooks with the tools and techniques to make fantastic, tasty & quick meals. Who would have ever thought jambalya could be easy...as a matter of fact, were having it for dinner tonight!

If I can make this and it come out good, anyone can!! The thyme is totally the perfect finishing touch for me, so yummy!! I did add more of the spices and it was a lil too spicy for my 3-yr old from the andouille

the recipe was ok and was easy to pull together but not a lot of flavor to it and no 'kick'. Jambalaya should be spicy - this was way too bland.

I have never eaten Jambalaya so I don't have anything to compare it to...but, this was delicious. Also, very easy to put together as long as everything is chopped and prepped ahead. I will definitely make this again.

This was the first time making Jambayala. It was so easy & quick to make! The ingredients are so simple and something I pretty much have on hand all the time, that I didn't even have to go to the store to buy anything. The only thing I did was add more chili powder and hot sauce than what the recipe called for to kick it up a notch. Family loved it and I highly recommend this recipe!

Rachel,
This is not jambalaya and it has no trace of Cajun flavors. The rice is supposed to be cooked in the dish, not served over top like it is in other Cajun dishes. Also, cumin and chili powder? Are you kidding me? You could call this a stew if you wish, but please stop calling it Jambalaya.
For everyone else, if you would like a simple REAL Jambalaya recipe, the best one I have found by Emeril.
