I used yellow onions and bacon fat instead of frying fresh bacon.
I was a little leery about all the onions, because my husband doesn't like them. To my surprise he ate everything. One thing I don't do is tell him all the ingredients that go in, if it tastes good that's all he needs to know.
This recipe was a great change of pace from the usual pan fried fish.

The crumbs should have been cut back to half a cup as they absorbed too much liquid and were soggy. Will try a different recipe for fish next time.

I made the recipe exactly except I used 3/4 cup of bread crumbs. It was very good, not great, but certainly worth trying. I believe the next time I make this dish, I'll season the bacon-onion topping with salt (I didn't think it would need salt because of the bacon, but it was slightly bland and as another reviewer suggested and I concur, additional lemon juice on top after baking. It's quite filling. Note: for those who have a Costco, I purchased their package of haddock fillets which was exactly two pounds, 3 large pieces which I left whole and placed in the butter/oil combo in a bake dish.

I cut the bread crumbs back to 1/2 cup and diced the bacon up before rendering. Other than that I prepared this dish according to the recipe and it was great. Organize and get your prep work done (mise en place and this dish is a real winner. Will definitely make again.

I did it a little different, I used pancetta instead of bacon and panko bread crumbs, and made one pan with haddock and one with turkey breat cutlets. Both were fantastic and I'll make this over and over, everyone loved it!

My boyfriend and I were craving fish for dinner. After reading the reviews I decided to go for RRay's recipe. I thought the fish was super easy to make and so moist. We both loved it! However, like many others I only used 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (using a whole cup would have definitely been overpowering I also didn't add EVOO to the pan before the bacon (really no purpose for that. Overall the fish was flavorful, moist, flaky and was not overpowered by the bacon or onion. We were very impressed with it!

Like alot of others, I reduced the amount of breadcrumbs & used only 4 slices of bacon. I made this super simple dish for my husband, daughter & her fiancee & we all really enjoyed it. The leftovers were just as tasty. Definitely will make this again.

The five of us - me, my husband and three children (ages 1-7 really enjoyed this immensely. It was very easy to make and the bacon added a ton flavor. Although my kids eat fish often, this is a great recipe to get non-fish-eating children to enjoy fish!

We are lucky to live near the East Coast so we have access to fresh fish all summer long. The problem is there aren't a lot of new ways to prepare a basic white fish like haddock or cod. My husband and 5 year old loved this recipe.

I am no expert at cooking, but I should have read the reviews first. I agree with using less bread crumbs. 1 cup was overwhelming and not enjoyable. Next time I will go with 1/3 cup bread crumbs. Also instead of 2 bunches of parsley, I would go with one. I also used only three pieces of bacon, as I am single and do not want clogged arteries. I did chop the bacon up into small bits and did not integrate with the bread crumbs but added it to the top of the haddock. Other than that, besides the excess bread crumbs, it was good and would do it again!
