We followed the recipe as printed, and found that the nuts really didn't have much flavor. So we just tossed in some more spices a la Rachael....

When I made it again I didn't even bother with the recipe. I just tossed in a bunch of different nuts, melted the butter, and added spices to taste. It was great!

I was a bit apprehensive about the anise - thought it might be a bit strong, but this is really good. The interesting thing is the range of flavors; you start by tasting the anise, and all of the flavors follow, ending with the taste of the individual nuts. The only problem was that the printed recipe never has you putting the whole thing together. When I watched Rachel make it, she doesn't move the nuts to a plate; she melts the butter and adds the spices to it in a separate pan and pours the butter mixture over the nuts in the pan, then adds the almonds to the same pan.
