I did this in a slow cooker. Drained the sauerkraut, layered it with the apple in slow cooker. Cooked the bacon, drained grease, added butter and onion and sauteed. Added meats to slow cooker, topped with onion, butter mix and seasonings. Layed over this strips of bacon and added the whole bottle of beer. Cooked on high about 2 hours, then low about 2 more hours. Awesome! Served this with mashed potatoes.

This takes all the hard work of making a superb sauerkraut and smoked meats meal. Tastes delicious and looks wonderful.

I prepared the port chop recipe using real pork chops since I didn't have the already cooked, smoked kind in this recipe. However the flavors the onions, bacon & apples make made them one of the best pork chop meals we had ever tasted. And sooo easy!

A few years ago, my husband and I went to a fabulous German restaurant in upstate NY. My husband actually said this was as good, if not better, than the meal we ate there! Thanks Rachael for such a fabulous, easy meal. Even my picky daughter liked it.

Both dishes were very good and really veru easy to make. Usually it takes me more than 30 minutes. But, this went very quickly. My son even liked the pork chops after I persuaded him to taste them. He's already asking for them again.

This meal was really good! I normally only cook low-fat meals, but this one appealed to my husband so I gave it a go and it was awesome! Makes a lot too...it even fed my dad and his wife.

After living in Germany (and eatingfor almost 6 years, I've been disappointed with most "German" food I've eaten since returning. This recipe (I only made the knockwurst & sauerkraut is as good as I've eaten in the US. This is an excellent and easy recipe for eliminating the biting sour flavor in most American sauerkraut. Next time I'll make the smoked chop, too. Looks good.

I've made the chops several times and my family always loves it. As the family cook I like it because it is quick to make and I always have the ingredients on hand.
