I've been looking for a "traditional" new years dinner to cook for my family for years. My mother is German, and always fixed pork ribs & saurkraut. I wasn't too crazy about that, but wanted to serve something with that "German tradition" feel to it. This was it! I used this recipe, along with the rest of the recipes on the 30-minute Passport to Germany, and my New Year's day traditional dinner was born! The recipes were quick, simple, and delicious! Thank you Rachel

I only made the chops w/ bacon, apple, and onion, but they were delicious!!! My husband doesn't usually like fruit with meat, but he had seconds, and thirds!!!

This was a quick, inexpensive meal with lots of big flavor. Served it with cheese and pumpernickel - great 'during the week' meal.

It took a bit of work to get both dishes together, but was well worth the effort. It really felt like a feast. My favorite part was the apple/onion topping for the pork chops- delicious!
(I couldn't find the smoked pork chops, so I sauteed regular boneless chops - it worked fine

I just tried the smoked pork chops but it was great. The flavors blended well with the dark beer and the apples and onions. Next time I will omit 1 piece of bacon or 1 tbsp of olive oil. I thought the bacon gave me enough fat to make the recipe tasty.
