Easy to follow recipe and so flavourful. Make sure you take the plantains out of their peels right after cooking or they'll overcook. I added a first course, something I had at a Cuban restaurant: simple spinach salad with tomato, mango and avocado, dressed with a raspberry vinaigrette. A perfect compliment. Yum yum yum!

I've made this dish twice. The first time I cheated and bought the Goya Rice and Bean mix. The second time I made it as stated in the recipe, and I was able to make this dish in about 45 minutes. The seasonings on the steak were great! I also grilled the plaintains (for 15 minutes instead of mashing them. Thanks Rachel!! Good going!!

There is no way this recipe takes 30 minutes! It took my sister and I at least 1 1/2 hours. That said, the flavors were great and the garlic shrimp topping was amazing!

My MAJOR issue with this recipe is the plantain dish! I love plantains, but I don't get why she wanted to use green plantains. They came out way too hard and starchy tasting, and were not edible at all. It was a shame because we were really looking forward to that part of the meal!

P.S. I agree that Rachael seemed rather frenzied while making this meal.

P.P.S. My sister and I agreed that any portion of this meal could have been its own meal by itself.

I guess if I were Wonder Woman in the kitchen I could have gotten this meal out in 30 minutes, but it took me almost an hour and a half!! I don't know anyone who speed cooks like Rachael, and if that is what it takes to make a meal ready in 30 minutes than I'll pass. I gave it two stars because it was not a 30 minute meal. The plantains took a lot longer to cook as everyone discovered. Things were ready at different times.

I didn't really care for this meal. It was a lot of work, and I didn't really love any of it enough to want to do it again.
