MOP Sausage Burgers

Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Saute mushrooms, onions and peppers until tender, 7 to 8 minutes then season with salt and pepper. Deglaze the pan with stock.

Combine the sausage and sirloin with grill seasoning, garlic and parsley. Mix and form 4 patties thinner at the center and thicker at the edges for even cooking and to keep burgers from bulging. Heat cast iron or nonstick skillet with 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium-high heat, cook patties 12 minutes turning once and top with mushrooms, onions and peppers and 2 slices of cheese. Turn heat off and cover pan with foil to melt cheese, 2 minutes. Pile on buns and serve.

    These are the bomb. My entire family loves these.
    I made these today for me and my dad. All I have to say is wow! I mean WOW!! So easy to make. Super tasty. Winner all around! And, anything BUT bland! It tasted like a meatball burger. I may even use this mixture for when I make spaghetti and meatballs. I had to sub some ingredients because of what I had on hand. I'd sent my dad to the store to get a few things that I didn't have in the house. He came back with a tiny container of curly parsley. Luckily I had some cilantro ready to pick on my patio. I also used a red, yellow and green bell pepper and plain white mushrooms in place of the cubanelle pepper and cremini mushroom. Oh, I also used chicken stock instead of beef stock. Also, had to use a mixture of sweet and spicy sausage (Dad can't handle too much spice. I may have also used an extra clove of garlic because I just can't help myself.
    If you want to feed your inner carnivore, this is the recipe for you. The family raved and it was very easy to make. Next time I might make 8 burgers instead of 4. 
    Can someone tell me what "MOP" stands for?

    These must be the best burgers that I have made for my family. My 7 yr old daughter is not a big fan of hamburgers, but she loves these. Now these are my husbands favorite burgers. Thanks Rachel!!!!!!
    I have made this burger several times now, and the reviews are always excellent. I'm sorry Rachel, but it is now known as Angela's Specialty!
    I wont make this one again. Easier to just cook the italian sausage as is.
    These burgers are delish!!!! I used aneheim peppers instead of cubenelle peppers. Just thinly slice and cook. They are great with these burgers! Hubby really liked them!! I will be making again!!!
    Absolutely delish!!! Diffinetly a keeper!! So juicy and flavorful. I used green peppers, onions and mushrooms. What a hit this meal was --even with my worst critic --nine year old daughter--never likes anything new--and she LOVED it!!

    I recently purchased a new grill pan (living in the city, I don't have the luxury of a backyard) and tried out this receipe to "christen" the pan. They were incredible! I couldn't find the cabanelle peppers, so I used a combination of sweet Italian pepper, & red & green bell peppers. I also passed on the mushrooms since I don't like them. The finished product was a huge hit! The burgers had amazing flavor & were perfectly juicy. At my boyfriend's request, I'm making a slider version to bring to the Memorial Day BBQ we're going to this weekend.
    Love them! These burgers were fantastic, very juicy and great taste. My stores don't carry cubanelles so I used red and yellow peppers, which were just fine. If people thought these were tasteless or dry, they either cooked them poorly or didn't buy quality meat because there is nothing wrong with this recipe. These are now a family favorite!     I love this burger. I tried it with green bell peppers instead and gouda cheese. The "MOP" was great on the burger. I also use ciabatta sandwich rolls. The only change I would make next time it to try a milder sausage. The flavor was on point, just a bit too much kick for me. I will definitely be making this burger again with even more twists and additions. Thanks for yet another new idea for me to add to my collection. The potato chips were great also. Victory!
    I've made this burger with the sausage and without the sausage, just adding ground pork and fennel seed instead. Both work well. We love the MOP. The potatoes are awesome and crunchy!
     
    I was so dissappointed in these burgers. I had seen Rachel make them on one of her shows and thought they looked wonderful and decided that THESE would be the Superbowl Burgers. I don't know if it was because there are two pounds of meat, and half of it is sausage, but it tasted just gross. I'll never make them again. The potatoes were good, though!
    I made the burgers with sweet Italian sausage and it was great. My husband loved them. The MOP were so tastly with the beef stock and the melted cheese was sooo good. I also made the roased thick potatoe chips with the burger and it was great. We will definatly make them again. Thanks Rachael!
    We found these burgers to be the best ones we have made in a long time. They were flavorful and juicy. The only change I made was to substitute the cubanelle peppers for pepproncinis to give the burgers a bit more "kick". I don't know what happened to the reveiwer's burgers who said they were bland, these are far from that. My husband couldn't stop talking about them all week. We are making them for the Superbowl tomorrow as "sliders", I can't wait!!!
    I tried this recipe last night and OMG...it was incredible!! The meat had a very good flavor, it was juicy and the MOP was a nice and different topping for what we are use to on an all american burger. So, this is what I'll be making for my SuperBowl Party on Sunday. Thanks Rachel!! Even my dad liked the burgers and he is not a fan of ground beef.
    I used regular Italian Sausage because my grocery store did not have Hot. Also I did not cook the Mushrooms, Peppers or Onions. My husband asked me not to. The burger is different than the average American Burger. Even with the regular Italian sausage it still held a lot of flavor. I am a very picky person when it comes to good, but I have been trying to step outside the box with my food (I mostly eat chicken). I think the burger was good, just not for me. Next time I think I leave the Italian sausage out and cook the Sirlon with the garlic and parsley and see how that works. I diffently did not think this burgar was bland. I would diffently recommend it to some one to try, especially if they really like burgers.
    I made a few changes to this recipe. I did not use the grill seasoning and I used a red pepper in place of the cubanelle. This was the best burger I ever had in my entire life. My husband and I just kept saying WOW. Rachel Ray you RULE!
    I was hesitant to make these burgers because we love the "American" style so much. All I can say is, "WOW!" The spicey, hot Italian sausage mixed with sirloin gave the burgers a real kick, and the MOP mixture was an incredible topping with the Provolone cheese. I would not change anything in the recipe. These are quite filling so you don't need much. These are definitely in our burger rotation.
     
     I read the other review and cannot even believe someone thought these were bland, it is obviously the ingredients, not the recipe.

    I whipped this up tonight and was very disappointed. I Cooked it exactly as Rachael did and it was quite bland. I even used a hot sausage. The burger just did not seem to have any flavor and was not juicy. I am of the opinion that the Cubanelle peppers are so mild they are tasteless. I may try it again with a ground chuck instead of the sirloin and with regular green peppers instead of the Cubanelle. Perhaps the ground chuck will have enough fat in it to make this a little more tasty. The thick cut roasted baked potatoes she served with this were quite good.
