There's an easy way to jazz up this recipe. Dice apples instead of making rings. Mix the diced apples in with the batter. Use 1 and 1/2 cups of apple juice in place of the water for better taste. Also, add 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and up the nutmeg to 1 tablespoon as well. I also use 3 and 1/2 cups of pancake mix because I like a thicker batter.

My teenager made these for brunch on a snow day, and they were delicious! He made them with bisquick and it will stick if you pat the apples dry first. Very festive. We ate ours with maple syrup.

I made this recipe with no problem; however, I did not like the taste. I had these at a Restaurant in Spain and the batter was much more refined and the fritter was a bit sweeter.

I added cinnamon to the pancake batter and when they were done we put ice cream on the top and drizzled caramel topping. It was a hit for our dessert tonight,

I made these for Hannukah this year and they were a big hit! I started making them after everyone was starting to arrive and I couldn't keep up with how fast they were eating them. Delicious!

No fret apple fritters? really??! My kitchen caught on fire. This recipe should've included a warning that your house can catch fire by boiling oil. I thought it would be helpful to share this with you. Have a happy holidays, because I will not.

I too used complete pancake mix and it was very easy, stuck to the apples well, and the coating browned beautifully. My collage age kids and their friends requested this as a regular weekend treat. I added ground cinnamon to the powdered sugar and sifted over the hot fritters and it was amazing. I do believe having the oil hot enough is key in not soaking up to much of the oil while frying. Rachel Rocks!!

Love-love-love the ease of making the batter however I found the flavor boring so I got creative. I added cinnamon, a little maple syrup, brown sugar and a shot of french vanilla extract. I also fried mine in a blend of oil and butter flavor crisco. Serve them immediately with an amaretto cream sauce drizzle and they're decadent!

These are delicious. I used Bisquick and it wouldn't stick. So, I made it really thick and loaded it on one side and put it in the oil batter side down. Flipped it after a few minutes and voila! Open-faced apple fritters. I didn't have confectioners sugar either. Just sprinkled on granulated. So good. A good way to use up left over apples. Just don't make these before you make dinner. Ate too many of them.
