My friend said that she's had french onion soup a bunch of times and mine was by far the best she's ever had!

This soup is so easy to make and my son loves it. He ia a typical 17 year old and is hard to please. He complimented me on it over and over. My husband likes it too and both of them want me to make it all the time now. I would make this for any dinner party that I hosted. All I can say is it is superb when I can find something that my two guys like.

I followed the recipe exactly as written and the soup came out perfect. The key ingredients are the thyme and bayleaf.

First time I made this type of soup. Recipe was very easy to follow, and was definately done in 30 minutes. Froze the leftover and they were equally delicious when reheated. Passed it on the co-workers and will be back for more!

Now I don't have to go to my favorite restaurant for onion soup. This is now a family favorite. Be sure to use Gruyere instead of the Swiss. The taste is worth the extra cost.

This is the BEST French Onion Soup I have ever had. I never even liked French Onion Soup until we tried this. My husband made it on our steak night and it went GREAT with a small salad, filet and grilled asparagus. We can't reccomend this recipe enough. It took a little longer for my husband to prepare it but it was well worth the wait. Our 2 year old daughter loved it cold! IT IS MY FAVORITE SOUP FROM NOW ON.

I had the best cup of french onion soup at a pricey steakhouse this weekend, and I have been looking for a good recipe ever since. I compared about 10 recipes I found, and decided to use Rachael's since I had most of her ingredients on hand. This soup was fantastic, right up there with my $10 cup at the steakhouse!! I left out the bread since I'm on phase 1 of South Beach Diet, and I also made a few other minor changes. I used 1/4 cup of dry sherry instead of 1/2; 3 spanish onions; and 2T chives (because they were in the steakhouse soup. I also had to cook the onions about 25 minutes until caramelized. Next time I will use fresh thyme instead of dry. Go with the Gruyere cheese...it cost me $9 for a brick, but it was well worth it! Make this soup today.
