I prepared this meal a few days ago. my boyfriend loved it. he had never had something like it, he asked me to fix it again for him. (I'm new to cooking so he is somewhat skeptical every time i fix dinner.
I had some trouble getting the white sauce to thicken, but i think it's because i had never made it. it took me about 1 hour to make it but because i think twice every time i do anything. if i were experienced i could have pulled it off in less than 1/2 hr.

It was tasty and i saved left overs for work. it serves 4 people easily.

I usually like Rachel's recipes but this one didn't do it for me. Very bland. The only thing we tasted was the cheese. Will not try again.

Overall, this was a good and hearty meal. My husband ate two servings at supper and took some to work the next day for lunch! This meal also reheats well.

However, I changed a few things to make it suit my family's tastes.

I used whole-wheat penne and doubled the carrots, onions, and garlic. When I make this again, I will also double the beans. If you are not a fan of celery (I'm not, use what is called for in the recipe and chop it very finely.

Instead of pancetta, I used turkey bacon (it's what I had. Also, instead of putting half of the Romano cheese in the sauce, I put all of it in there and topped the casserole with extra cheese.

I have read some complaints about how this dish has no flavor. That is their own fault. First of all, recipes are written for the masses and cannot possibly take into account individual tastes. There is no rule that you have to follow any recipe EXACTLY!

Here is my advice---TASTE the food BEFORE you serve it. That should be one of those "DUH" rules, but SO many people serve food without tasting it first! If it is not flavorful enough for you, then ADD more HERBS and SPICES!!

My family and I enjoyed this recipe. I will make it again.

I've made this recipe once before. It was good. This time I decided to try adding left over shredded turkey to the veggie/bean mixture at the end. I used the dark meat. It tastes great. Can't even tell there's turkey in it. I usually add more veggies and use a little less pasta. Overall a good recipe.

I made this on a whim one night and loved it. The bacon, veggie and bean mix was delicious on its on. Then when you add the cheese sauce...mmmm. I used mozzarella and bacon instead, and didn't have white wine so just used some water and it was still delicious! This was very flavorful and hearty dish. I put some bread crumbs on top for extra crunch. I will be making this dish again for sure.

This was my first Rachael Ray recipe I've tried. I used lower sodium bacon instead of pancetta, chicken broth instead of white wine, added some fire roasted tomatoes and didn't add all of the pasta. Overall it turned out great and it was extremely flavorful! Everyone loved itincluding my 3 yr. old son who is very picky. I will definitely be trying more of her recipes.

I used 3 slices of bacon instead of pancetta and omitted celery. The favor in this dsh was amazing and I could not stop eating. This will definately be my go to pasta dish and will share the recipe with everyone I speak with.

I typically love Rachael and her recipes and was really excited to make this. However, my husband and I were extremely disappointed when we tried it. It just didn't have much flavor. I can't say it was bad, per say, but it wasn't very good. I actually threw out the leftovers because I knew none of us would be eating it again. Oh, my 11 month old did love it, but she will eat anything! I followed the recipe to a T, with the exception of the celery (I didn't have any, but did use some celery salt. We will not be making this again. Sorry, Rach, but this one wasn't for us.

The recipe as written had too much pasta and not enough vegetables for my taste. I redid it with twice the veggies, and thought it was better balanced. Obviously increasing the veggies made the dish healthier as well. Overall, I liked the concept.

I bet using pancetta and romano cheese made all the difference in this recipe. It was superb and we will definitely make this again. The only change I made was using a lot more romano cheese than the recipe called for. My husband, 11 yr old girl and 2 yr old son loved it. I'd recommend it and will definitely be making it again!
