I made these for my wife last night and she loved them. I added some "Essence" to the chicken mixture and baked the taquitos longer than called for to make them a little crisp on the edges.

    I used homemade corn tortillas.

Prep time was way off (not including time to make tortillas.

I've only made the burritos and sauce and my husband really enjoyed it, it was like he was eating at Chipotle. And I got him to eat veggies as the zucchini was "snuck" in there!

I saw the episode today and ran out this afternoon for the ingredients. Out of all, I give the components the following (on a scale of 1-5:

    Taquitos: 3.5
    Burritos: 5
    Sauce: 0

I did end up baking the burritos with the taquitos, which hubby & I both think made them yummy. I couldn't find the cheese mentioned, but used a Mexican cheese for melting. It was GREAT! (Way better melted than when we sampled it cold.

The taquitos needed more seasoning (to taste and turned out fairly good, once baked. The filling was pretty bland, though, so next time I would add a little of the cheese.

I couldn't find fire roasted tomatoes, so used plain pureed tomatoes instead. Maybe this was the problem with the sauce, but I doubt it. It was just plain... well, Italian. I definitely wouldn't make it again. I was disappointed because it sounded so yummy on the show.

To make my point more succinct... take a solid base recipe and make it your own.

I only made the taquito's and sauce. Both seemed to need a little something. I added green chilis, hot sause and some roasted poblano's to the sauce. My 17 yr old loved the taquito's. Seemed like a lot of trouble, but would try again with some changes. Not authentic, but maybe cream cheese or shredded sharpe cheese?
