i swear by this recipe it is quick simple and cheap to make.... one tip though if you dont like the bitterness of kale take a strainer in the sink and grate the kale along the bottem while running cold water over it the water will be green which is the bitter part of the kale

I tried this soup yesterday and being vegetarian I omitted chourico but rest everything same. Soup turned out very bitter and kale was hard even the shortest pieces. I am thinking I did some mistake as looking at the other reviews it should have been good. Can someone shed some light. What could have gone wrong that made it bitter and leaves were still hard ? How long do you cook for ? Thanks. Look forward to some suggestion.

We've been hit with the flu so I used this recipe as a base but tossed in a chicken leg with the chorizo, added vitamin rich veggies: bok choy, yellow bell pepper, cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini and I tossed in a whole thai chili from my garden to spice it up, remove the chili before serving.

    Very good very wholesome.

So I am the only girl who lives in a house with five college boys. It has become my job to feed the masses. I bought kale at the farmers market recently and didn't know what to do with it. I tried this, but used hot italian sausage instead. The boys loved it! I saved this one in my recipe box for sure!

Anyone who is scared of kale needs to give this recipe a chance. It is so flavorful, delicious, and nutritious. I told my boyfriend I was making this for dinner tonight and he was not thrilled so I made this soup AND a big pot of chili.....he hasn't touched the chili! I used chicken andouille and a pinch of crushed red pepper for some more heat. Loved it!

I've never cooked with Kale, chourico, or chickpeas before and this recipe was about as easy as it gets. The flavors combined very nicely! I accidentally purchased MEXICAN chorizo - make sure you buy smoked, spanish, and/or portuguese chourico! My picky-eater roommate commented at least a dozen times about how good the house smelled lol

I had just discovered Kale and found this soup recipe. I didn't have the chourico or the chick peas. So I made it with hot Italian sausage and black beans. Great taste. I loved the spiciness but would imagine you could also make it with sweet Italian sausage and would taste great. If you are watching your sodium intake you don't need to add the salt or pepper. The recipe calls for 1 can of diced tomatoes. I used the large can (29 oz and used the liquid. This is a definate keeper!

After going to MA on our Honeymoon, we fell in love with this soup and yearned to taste it again here in the south. This was easy, yielded a lot and seems to be great to keep budget and shape. Used smoked sausage as a substitue for linguica. The taste is the same as in the portuguese restaurants in Cape cod.
