It's a great soup. Even my kids eat their greens with this soup. LIke most others I ditched the turnips added more potatoes. Thought it was a little thick for our tastes and added an extra cup of water.

Yum! I can't find the Chourico in my town, so sometimes I use chicken sausage and chicken stock, but today I decided to try it with chorizo and beef stock. Everyone I've served it to has loved it, and it makes a big pot. This is a recipe I make again and again.

Very good! I omitted turnip also, didn't have any. Also I used half beef and half chicken broth and a full 28 oz can of diced tomatoes. It was excellent!

This soup is yummy! I omitted the turnip because I didn't have any so I can't attest to that, but otherwise it was very tasty!
As a correction to one of the reviews below, Chourico is, in fact, a Portugese sausage. In Spain it is spelled Chorizo. Either way, it originates from the Iberian peninsula. YUM!

I love this soup!!
Just to be technical though: Chorizo is Mexican/Spanish type of sausage and Linguiça is Portuguese sausage. I would not call it Portuguese with any other sausage than Linguiça, it could offend. but...
Thank you Rachael for your Wonderful recipes!!

I love chorizo, and I love all the vegetables in this soup. It was fun to make, and I will make it many more times. It didn't seem too light or too heavy so would be suitable any time of the year.

As Rach would say, "Delish"! I saw this show and this looked so good I wanted to crawl into the TV and eat a bowl with her! I was so happy when I saw the recipe was here. Made it for one of the holidays as a starter and my family couldn't get enough of it! I read what one reviewer said about it not being the original kale soup. I imagine every Portuguese family has their own recipe just like we Italians have our own recipe for sauce, who's to say what's original. I didn't grow up eating kale, this was the first time. I absolutely loved it as well as chorizo (one of my favorite meats. This soup is fabulous! Good job Rach!

I made this with the sweet portuguese sasuage. My whole family really enjoyed this soup, including my picky teenager. For heath reasons, I would like to find a leaner version of this sausage that was just as tasty.
