this soup was very good with just a few tweaks. I took the advice of a reviewer and added a little pumpkin pie spice with the nutmeg, definitely made a difference. Also, pureed the soup before adding the cream (I used milk. I did have to add a little extra flour to thicken it up a bit. The relish was essential. But overall, the finished product was creamy, spicy, delicious pumpkin soup with just a little sweet spicy bite from the relish. Would definitely make again.

Made this part of our holiday meal two years ago. Everyone loved it. When we didn't make it last year, it was noticed. It will be on the table this Thanskgiving!

WOW! I made this soup yesterday and had it today for dinner and it was DELICIOUS! I love making soup and this was, by far, one of the best I've made and eaten! Thank you Rachael! I followed other suggestions and used 1 cup skim milk and 1 cup fat-free half & half. The only other change was that I didn't have hot sauce, so I made it without. I used a fresh pumpkin, cooked it for 45 minutes and then pureed it. But I followed the rest of the recipe exactly and it was very tasty and thick. Better than most restaurant soups I've had and will make it again and again.

Not. Good. I followed this recipe exactly and it was not tasty. The relish was delicious though.

I was very disappointed in this soup. I love pumpkin, but this was not at all to my liking. The soup did not seem to know if it wanted to be sweet or salty. I was tempted to make it salty after it turned out bland, but that was fighting the sweet relish too much - which I will say was quite good, unlike the soup.

This was delicious, my boyfriend and I both liked it. The relish is excellent as well - it gives the soup more flavor and a little crunch.

My favorite soup!
I wanted to make pumpkin soup for a long time, and last year for a Halloween party I made this recipe for the first time. I've made it many times since then- even during the summer!
I usually don't get 2 kinds of onion to use in the recipe and instead use the same onion, whether it's red or sweet or whatever I have on hand.
It was my first home-made soup, and it was very easy.
