This dish was definitely interesting and different. First of all, the wine cooking with the rice smelled amazing while it was cooking on the stove. I think it could've used a toasted nut for some crunch - like some toasted almonds or something, and maybe some chopped parsley. I really liked the grapes - it was just something totally different. I used jasmine rice and I was wondering (as I see some other reviewers asking about the cooking time for the rice, but with the rice I used it turned out just fine with the cooking time recommended in the recipe.

This recipe was awful. I made it exactly to recipe and I couldnt even make myself eat it just on the principle that I had cooked it and used all that wine. Do not make this!

Does this recipe call for raw rice or cooked rice? If it calls for cooked rice , most rice take on average 30 minutes to cook.

I cooked this for my mom and my house mate. My mom is hard to please and my house mate is a very fussy eater. they both LOVED it. so much so that I was talked into doing twice more that same week and will be cooking it for different friends on saturday. I must admit i didnt like the sound of it but i was intrigued so i tred it anyway. Ingenious idea and it works great, especially with the grapes. I think i used a Cab/Sauv.

I didnt have grapes so I put in sweet red cherries I had in the refrig. I tasted it before the addition of the fruit and have to agree that it was bitter, but with the cherries it was really good! I used a cabernet but will try a somewhat sweeter wine next time.

I love Giada's Red Wine Risotto with Peas. Maybe some people here would like to try it.

Thanks tor the comments above I cut back the red wine and added white wine with it. I also added chicken stock. The picky eaters in my family love the flavors and color. I cooked roast beef instead of chicken, beef goes well with red wine.
    Thanks Rachael.

Imagine drinking your favorite red wine served piping hot, yuck! This recipe needs either sugar and spices (like mulled wine or beef stock and onions (like beef bourginon.
