The recipe did not specify whether to hang the ice cream on the bottom edge or top edge of the glass, and unfortunately I chose the bottom. I would recommend using something larger than a salad dish to catch the overflow for anyone else who plans to use the bottom of the glass. I am deducting two stars from the score for Rachael's failure to clarify.

So, we've been making ice cream sodas (which is what the rootbeer float is since 1874 but it takes Rachel Ray to revolutionize the recipe? Come on Rachel, you can do better than that. I doubt she even reads these, sadly.

I drink this to wash down late night bacon. Where would I be if it wasn't for Rachael Ray?

I am torn on reviewing this recipe. While I eventually enjoyed the taste of ice cream and root beer together, the directions left much to be desired. First, in order to hang the ice cream on the glass, I googled "ice cream hanger", but came up with nothing. So since, the recipr did not have better instructions, I attempted to hang the ice cream using the traditional clothes hanger and then a picture hanger, but neither worked.

That was the least of my problems. Since it was not explicit in how to knock the ice cream into the glass, I used a baseball bat to achieve this action. Well, root beer and ice cream sprayed across my kitchen and the glass shattered in my daughter's face. Next time I will just drop a scoop into a cup and pour root beer on top. Despite the copious amount of blood and tears from my child, the root beer float was OK.

"Hang a large, well packed scoop of vanilla ice cream on the edge of a fountain glass or other tall drinking glass."

Say what now? Why is this so complicated? Here's my version: plop a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a glass, slowly pour in root beer making sure it doesn't overflow -- why waste food?-- and enjoy.

There you go, one sentence. Damn!

This was the MOST COMPLEX recipe for a root beer float that I have ever seen! I like them short, simple, and to the point - just like Dark Chocolate as a Snack!

This is the most creative recipe. I couldn't find root beer at my regular old grocery store, so I just used regular beer, and I don't like ice cream, so I left it out. It was really refreshing and delish

I am just stunned that some people need a "recipe" for a root beer float! Only Rachael Ray could take five sentences to explain how to combine vanilla ice cream and root beer. And only her most deranged fans could rave and gush about it. I am sure that someone at Food Network put this "recipe" up as a joke.

I was not born in the US, and floats are new to me, so thank you Rachel for featuring this recipe. Keep up a good work, and don't mind those simpleminded people who think that they now it all. If they did, they would know better than to express their opinion somewhere where it is NOT wanted.
