Though I didn't use the exact recipe, as I didn't have the boxed biscuit mix on hand. I used one of Ina's recipes but the orange zest, rosemary and ham (though I used crisped bacon - again because I didn't have the ham on hand were absolutely fantastic!!!!! It was the best scone I have EVER tasted!!! Thanks Rachel for the wonderful inspiration!!!

I used more ham and less rosemary then the recipe called for as I used fresh rosemary and I know that is an herb that is very strong. I thought these were not good at all. Like eating a mouthful of rosemary. Totally overpowered the ham. I put raseberry jam which made them a little more tasty. I think I will experiment with a different herb or different scone recipe.

Quite impressed with this recipe, I added about half a cup of grated cheddar and they are delicious! (And for those who had the same problem as me, I couldn't find Jiffy biscuit mix, I used 2 cups of Jiffy "all purpose baking" mix... turned out great.

A great "Bring Something" dish. Took them to a work potluck the first time I made them about 3 years ago. Planning to take them to a friend's Thanksgiving this time. Easy and tasty!

These scones are the most fragrant and delicious mouthfuls I have ever tasted. They are even better with whipped cream and raspberry syrup as a dessert. The recipe was so easy to follow and make for my family brunch, and I also had enough to share at work. I even received e-mail thanking me for the most delicious scones. I think the rosemary was the trick.

I made this recipe twice (a week apart just to make sure, but both times my husband and I really did not like the texture or very chemical flavor. The scones looked beautiful, flecked with the zest, rosemary and ham, and were nice and golden. The texture was not bad, but definitely not scone like (which we both love -- more biscuit like. But the flavor was just really meh, and just kind of chemical. :(

These were a big hit at Christmas, however I did make a few changes. When I read the initial reviews for this recipe there was some confusion over it so I wanted to post this to help others out.

    1. You do not have to use Jiffy mix. Not all groceries stores carry it (mine did not, but any mix will do. I would stay away from mixes that call for an egg if possible just to keep the recipe simpler. I used Fisher's btw.
    2. Use the amount of liquid called for on the box of mix.
    3. Bake at the temperature and for the time given on the box.

The first three things are very important and will make the recipe a lot easier, especially for people without a lot of baking experience. I also made a few minor substitutions that weren't necessary but I'll share because they turned out so yummy.

My grocery store had fresh rosemary on sale so I used that instead of dried. It also had a good price on Black Forrest Ham at the deli counter so I substituted that for Smoked Ham. I used a bit less rosemary and almost twice as much ham as the recipe called for.

I used whole milk instead of cream (the directions on the mix box were for water but using dairy instead made the scones moister simply because that is what I had on hand. I think any dairy liquid would work.

This recipe as written on the website is slightly more difficult for novice bakers because it does require some tweeking. However, if you follow my directions they will be much easier and so delicious.

Like Rachael, I don't bake if I can help it. This recipe was super simple and sooo delicious with the added orange zest. Yum-O!
