So, so easy. So, so good. This has become a staple for me because I am not much of a cook and it makes me look good. I also substitute bell peppers and mix 1/2 hot and 1/2 sweet sausage. We like to pour it over thick rustic bread and let it soak in. Easy for a family dinner, freezes really well.

I have been making this recipe for years and my family loves it!! Although, I have always substituted bell peppers for the cubanelle peppers because they're about close to impossible to find down here in deep south Texas. I also do 1/2 hot sausage anad 1/2 Italian sausage and use dry herbs rather than fresh if I have to. Definitely a staple in my house :

This is so simply and wonderful! I added fresh oregano and parsley from my garden since I didn"t have any fresh basil. I mixed up the peppers too. I served it with homemade french bread and desert instant sucess in my house! Thanks Rachael for making recipes for families on a budget!

This was yumm-yyyyy! I reduced the sausage to 1# and added a 15oz can of cannellini beans because I wanted to serve this as a main course. Perfect! My only complaint was that, even though I live in San Diego area and went to several Mexican markets, and big chain stores, I was completely unable to find cubanelle peppers. I ended up getting Anaheim peppers which looked very similar except more green than yellow. Worked just fine, but wish I could get the one's recommended!

My boyfriend and I enjoy hot food so I added several types of hot peppers - delicious! As another reviewer mentioned, serving with a starch is essential.

Like so many of your recipes, DELICIOUS!!! That's all I can say about it.
I slow simmered it for several hours and used Anaheim chili's. Those were the only changes.
I will definitely make it again, and again, and again!

I was shocked at how easy and how DELICIOUS this was. I used 1lb each sweet and spicy italian sausage, and used lower fat/calorie chicken sausage for the sweet. No idea what cubanelle peppers are so I just used a multi pack of sweet peppers and it was delicious.

I didn't measure the balsamic, just eyeballed it all, and it was fantastic. Lots of burnt yummy bits in the pan to deglaze, and it was delicious.

I did it a little differently though:
cooked the sausage first, removed 2/3 and put it in a pot for room. Cooked the onions and peppers w/the remaining sausage for flavor, adding some chicken broth early to deglaze early b/c the pan was blackening. Dumped the peppers and onions in the pot, then deglazed the pan with the vinegar, reduced it, and once it was a nice reduction THEN I added the broth., then the tomatoes.

    This was so, SO good.
