Tried to remember my mom's from scratch spaghetti and meataball recipe. I read this one through, made it and it was as good as hers.

Refreshing twist on regular ol' spaghetti night! Great flavor in the sauce. Meatballs could have had a little more "umph"

This was my first time making meatballs ; so I read several of the reviews I actually took a couple of liberties as well, I was worried about the meatballs being too dry or flavorless so I added 1/4 cup more if Parmesan, a couple dashes of crushed red pepper for spice, half a sauteed onion, and a dash of olive oil and liquid aminos, needless to say they were delish! I also recommend flipping them half way through the cook time so they brown on both sides. A lot of reviews suggest being more generous with added spices and I have to agree! The left overs are great too!

Very simple and tastes great. That being said and because it is so easy, play around with it a bit. I found that a little red wine (most recently I used some Pinotage I was sipping on while I was make it or vodka can really bring a lot of flavor out of the tomatoes.

Just tried this recipe last night for a night-in with my boyfriend, and it was fabulous! It was easy to make and delish! It was perfect with freshly baked garlic bread and a bottle of wine :

I have never made the sauce, but the meatballs are my absolute fave! I just made me them for supper tonight and I can't wait to eat them. I've made them many times and they always turn out fabulous. They are my go to meatballs.

The red pepper was way too much for us so I had to mellow it out with some heavy cream and beef broth. Because of that I had to add in some extra dried seasonings. I also don't like my sauce too chunky, so I blended it up with my immersion blender. I think this helped thicken it up and make it not so runny, for those that were looking for a way to get around that... Also, don't be afraid when you're adding salt and pepper to your meat. I was a little hesitant, and I wish I had added quite a bit more. Baking the meatballs was a perfect way to have a healthier meatball, and the ground sirloin wasn't greasy at all.

Wow, I was really surprised how good this was, because it is so simple. The favors really work. I did not have crushed tomatoes so I pureed two small cans of diced and it worked just fine. Came home from jogging looking forward to the leftovers for lunch and my husband and 4 year old had polished them off! Oh well, will have to make it again. And I used whole grain spaghetti, yum-o! Thanks, Rach.
