These are very tasty but you need at least another egg or two and some more flour to hold them together. They were much more like hash browns than pancakes. Frustrating!

Best method of ridding shredded potatoes of moisture I've found is to use a potato press. Work quickly in small batches...very well worth the effort. Crispiest hash browns and potato pancakes ever!

I would like to tell zhill that you shred uncooked potatoes for potato pancakes but you do not have a reply button.

loved it. it was easy and not time consuming at all. use raw potatos of course to be shredded. i didnt get much water as rachel said it could happen. on the show she did not use egg, so i decided not to as well. i may have used more flour than what is asked for, but like her i eyeballed all the ingredients. i put enough flour to get the right hold necessary to pan fry. i didnt make the guacomole only because i decided to serve it with cranberry relish. it can be eaten plain w/o the dipping sauce b/c it was delicious. my husband loved it and requested for an upcoming guys lunch i'm preparing. this sweet and spicy appetizer is a win win.

This is a fabulous recipe. Question for all of you...why make a recipe the very first time, not follow the exact recipe, and then have the gall to review it? You are reviewing your own recipe. So unless you make the exact recipe, don't bother giving the rest of us the wrong advice by rating a recipe that you did not even make. Also, for "Chef from Denver CO #1366064" just don't waste our time reading a review like yours. Rachel is my favorite because she probably has something positive to say about everything; including your responses.

My family just made these for a holiday dinner and they were wonderful. Had to omit the chili powder b/c of the kids-but otherwise made them as directed. The sweet potatoes added a wonderful flavor as did the spices. The guacamole was the perfect compliment. It took longer than 10 minutes to cook them all, though so leave a bit of extra time

I watched Rachael make these and then went to my kitchen and made the potato cakes to go with bacon, eggs, and toast for breakfast. Didn't make the guacamole. My husband and I loved these. The flavor is wonderful. Probably will never again make plain potato cakes! I didn't have any trouble with them staying together.

Did anyone notice that Rachael never put the egg in with the other ingredients when she made this on the show?

Did I miss something? Between prep and cooking it took me almost 2 hours to make these. I did break in the middle to finish up a desert, but he prep was a lot of work - grate and onion... By the time I finished this as an appetizer we had to order out. I might try again, but... The taste was nice. I might have just done something wrong, but it takes more than 30 mins to get your food ready.
