I used this recipe with leftover ham i had from easter and I just used the cheese I had on hand: asiago , gouda, and parmesan. Delicious! The nutmeg and cayenne give great flavors and I just sprinkled panko and parmesan on top without mixing them together and broiled it for 5 minutes. Great recipe especially if you have leftover ham!

pretty good. I didnt like the hot ham so I got the regular-I tried it at the deli 1st before selecting. Hubby liked it too so I will make again but not often because its high in fat!

I was looking for a recipe to clean out the fridge. I came across this one on FN. I had left over Easter ham. Mushrooms that I had to use before going bad and a bag of fresh spinach that I had gotten free at the grocery with one of those food meal deals. I tweaked the recipe a little to fit the ingredients I had on hand. It turned out awesome. My girls loved it. I only had shredded mozzarella and parm. I added heavy cream (as I had that to use up before going bad with the milk. I then thinned it all out with chicken stock as it was thick. It was delicious and my girls asked to have left overs for lunch. Who would have thought? So simple and delicious and a money and time saving meal. Thanks Rachel.

Here is a good tip for this recipe, just replace the ham by some jamon iberico de bellota, in case you do not know it this is probably the best ham in the world, it is extremely tasty and healthy (no cholesterol, it comes from a particular breed of swine only found in Spain and Portugal. While it is a bit pricey, the results on the recipe are just amazing. If you want to keep it low budget, buy some Serrano ham which is also great.
I always buy my iberico ham online at Buyjamon.com as it is fresh and delivered to your door.

BuyJamon.com the market place for iberico ham.

Amazing dish! I used 2 cups of shredded mozzarella instead of cubed fresh and it was perfectly creamy, I also sauted mushrooms into the onions and garlic. The only thing I would change next time is use half (or maybe none of the bread crumbs.

Very satisfying on a cold, dreary day. Warms you up inside. Despite the multitude of substitutions I had to make, was delicious. Used nonfat powdered milk mixed with water per box instructions (ran out of milk..., only had half a red onion in the house which I chopped up and threw in, and had leftover ham (just regular, smoked which I chopped up and threw in. Next time I'll make my own bread crumbs, didn't like the gritty texture of the premade crumbs. Might leave out the mozzarella entirely just to help with lowering fat content . . . Increased the cayenne for our taste. Think that's it. Satisfying.
