Made this recipe a few times, everyone loves it! For everyone complaining about too much blue cheese, just be your own chef and put a cheese you like! I, personally LOVE blue cheese so it was perfect. Delicious!!!!!

I have made this many many times, always a hit! I have made the potatoes with blue, feta, goat, and cheddar...all have been great.

For those of you complaining about the bland meat...I read several that said the couldn't brown the meat in the bacon drippings. This is why your meat is so bland. Ground round or sirloin has very little fat , so if you are not going to brown in the bacon drippings, the I would suggest you use ground chuck (you fat content would be about the same or less if you just browned the meat in the drippings. You will also have to add salt and or pepper to the meat. By the way, it does make a difference in the taste, texture and "runnyness" if you us hamburger or ground beef. Shepherd's pie traditionally was a dish that was made with the leftover lamb. veggies and potatoes from Sunday dinner, so the added vegs and lamb are very true to the tradition. so is the left over prime rib. As for the 30 mins, the will depend on your efficiency an experience in the kitchen. 45 mins is not long either.

This is a great pie that has become part of our regular rotation. It gets requested by my family and friends at least once a month. The only alteration I made is cooking it in the oven at 400 for 20 minutes. I like the pie to be hot throughout when I serve it and the broiler does not give me that result. I have made it with ground turkey and ground beef, both work just fine. I also enjoy the taste of Yukon Gold potatoes. This also heats up the next day fabulously. Sometimes my brother requsts peas or corn in it too. Good luck!

My family and I just love this recipe. I don't usually make shepherds pie because it's so time consuming. I did make some small change though. No one in my family will eat cooked onions so I used a sour cream based french onion chip dip in the potatoes so we could still have the onion taste.I also didn't cook my own bacon, I used pre-packaged real bacon pieces usually used for salads. Made it that much easier.

This is a great Sherpherd's Pie recipe. I followed the recipe as is, with a few modifications. Instead of beef, I used turkey. I also used more mushrooms than it calls for, I added in carrots and peas, and used chicken stock instead of beef stock. I also used cheddar instead of blue cheese, and it was superb! My husband requested Shepherd's Pie this week for a special meal and I'm so glad I used this recipe! I will definitely make it again!
