This recipe is simple to make, fun to eat, and so good! Talk about comfort food! I agree with some of the reviews saying it takes a little over 30 minutes, but it's really easy work. And actually, if you sequence the cooking the way the recipe suggests, it can be done in 30 minutes. Also, the amount of blue cheese is a matter of personal taste, just like anything else in cooking. I actually use more. I use frozen carrots/peas/corn in place of mushrooms sometimes and it's really good that way too. This is often requested at my house!

This recipe looked interesting so I decided to give it a try. You can add any veggies you like and change the meat around to suit your taste and it still comes out good. Here's a few of my tips: 1. Used boxed mashed potatoes, it is a MAJOR time saver (You'll get closer to a 30 minute meal and they are pretty good. 2. Cut down on the blue cheese in the potatoes, but definitely keep some kind of cheese in the potatoes. 3. Add any sauteed veggies of your choice, the more the better. 4. Add more Worcestershire and some red wine to the gravy for added flavor.

Give this recipe a try and be creative -- you'll like it!

I'm not one for blue cheese, so I omitted it, but used everything else. This was WONDERFUL ! Definitely an addition to my recipe book !

I have made this 3/4 times making variations in each....definately need to add A1, more Worcestershire sauce and corn layered under the mashed potatoes really makes it a well-rounded meal. The prep and actually cooking CANNOT be done in 30 minutes, even with everything set out and ready to go. I've tried and tried but an hour was the shortest I could manage and even then I was exhausted from trying to accomplish this in 30 minutes. It is definately one of the favorites in our house now!

I saw Rachael do this on TV, and was inspired. This was my first time making shepards pie. I don't eat pork or alot of red meat, so I decided to use ground turkey and turkey bacon instead. I didn't follow the measurments to a tee, I was more generous. I added some adobo to my turkey, because turkey can be flavor bland. I don't like bleu cheese, so I subbed with feta instead...gave it a real nice taste. It was really tasty and flavorful...even my 3 year old said it was YUM!

I haven't really done alot of cooking in the last 20+ yrs. This was my first in as long (my husband does most of the cooking. Well it has rekindled that need to get back in the kitchen and make it a place I love to hang out in. My husband absolutely loved it and wants to add it to our "regular's".

I made this for dinner tonight, except for the bleu cheese, (substituted parmesan/asiago, and no mushrooms. It was sooooooooo good! My husband loved it. Definitely better than my old recipe. The gravy made it so good! And quick, it was done in 30 minutes!
    Thanks Rachael!!

Great Great Dish! Used less blue cheese and used ground turkey as opposed to ground sirloin. Added some white wine when cooking mushrooms and onions and this was a huge hit! I can't believe this is Rachael Ray's and there is no garlic. I added some in.. just for her! Paprika and chives added a nice presentation. Can't wait for leftovers this week!

    1. Lose the blue cheese (just not to everyone?s taste
    2. Substitute 1 lb of Jimmy Dean Sage or Hot sausage (much more savory than the beef alone
    3. Store bought real mashed potatoes are the biggest time saver on this one
    4. Shepherd?s Pie without the vegetables just is not the same
    5. Though not really traditional Shepherd?s Pie (no lamb, it will certainly do in a pinch.
