I have made this several times and used turkey and/or ground beef along with wild or white rice and black beans in place of pinto beans. When I didn't have leftover rice, I used the 90 second microwaveable rice in the pouch, let it cool and added to the meat. This burger can stand alone and does not need a bun, but is wonderful either way. This recipe is a true keeper and one that will be enjoyed for years to come!

I followed the directions exactly and used all ingredients exactly too, but this was way too bland without any salt. I usually am sensitive to salt, so I was really surprised in the lack thereof.

After I added the salt to both the sauce and meat, the taste became a 5-star. The sauce and burger go so well together without either overpowering the other. Even my mom who is usually a fish and rice gal wolfed it down.

I omitted the rice and used cannellini beans instead....Recipe seemed large so I froze a few and hey were just as good a few days later. Received rave reviews! Oh and the sauce was a super compliment to the burger.

These were excellent, but they made waaaay too much of a burger. The flavors were "spot on" but the burgers couldn't even fit on a regular size bun.... made exactly as directed. I could have used 1/2 lb of turkey or less beans/rice. I will make these again, but use a bit less meat... now that is stretching a buck! Great recipe, just use less meat, beans , or rice... I vote less meat. Great keeper!

These are very yummy! I made them smaller as we are not big eaters and they are very filling. They are pretty healthy if you are careful with the portions and we had them on whole grain rolls. Fabulous and different!

Lots of good ingredients and love the use of spices. However, starting with the photo, you are encouraging the consumption of way too much food. You have the influence to change the way people eat. Use it to encourage portion control. Please. ... for the health of families.

Burgers were very tasty. They were a little spicy for my kids though. The avocado sauce was good. It needed a bit of salt. The burgers were also HUGE! We made 6 burgers but probably could have made 8.

The bens kept falling out of the burgers. I think next time I will "smash" the beans with a potato masher or use refried beans. Maybe a beatten egg would help with the binding too.

Also, a nonstick skillet is esential. Started in a stainless skillet and they stuck really badly. The beans have a tendency to pop when fried.

They were really, really good though! My husband, grown daughter and grandaugher loved them even though they were skeptical at first!

My grandaughter (10 years old did not want the guac, lettuce, onion or tomato. She insisted on ketchup and scarfted her burger in less than 5 minutes!

These were very easy to make and pretty quick. I used Ranch Style beans and they over-powered the burger a bit. I made the guacamole sauce too and it was very yummy on the burgers. The only problem I had was overcooking the burgers and the tops burnt a bit. Overall, good recipe, will make again!
