    The name of this recipe should be changed to Pickled Brussels Sprouts so you know exactly what to expect. Because they are pickled, to me they taste better served at room temp or even cold. If you watch the video, she only used 2 teaspoons celery salt NOT tablespoons so that is a typo in the recipe. Also in the video she does not cut the sprouts in half.

    Overall I think this is a good basic recipe. This recipe sounded good, but upon tasting the first time it needed some tweaking for our tastes. We love sprouts and with my personal adjustments, (I never make a recipe exactly according to what is written we have enjoyed it several times.

    My changes were: 4-5 tbs honey, 1 tsp pickling spices or to your taste, 1/2 tsp celery seed, 1/4 tsp hot pepper flakes, and salt and pepper to taste. I used no mustard seeds, no celery salt and no red bell pepper as I didn't have any peppers on hand. I used the other ingredients as listed. We prefer them whole so they don't break apart as much and so I cooked them longer. I think they would be good chilled, but they never last long enough for me to find out.

    If you watch Rachel, she makes recipes the way she likes them and I think that is exactly what she wants her viewers to do with her recipes. Make them yours! Thanks Rachel!!

    Great ingredients, bad preparation! It doesn't say but when you trim the sprouts score the ends then cut in half 90 degrees to the scoring, this helps them cook through better. Also saute the onions and peppers for about 2 minutes first in peanut oil then deglaze with the vinegar then add stock, tumeric, and mustard seed bring to a low boil then drop to low simmer then cover and braise for about 15 min. I added a 1/4 teaspoon of ground cayenne, since the recipe is called sweet and SPICY, then added the honey, celery salt, and fresh ground pepper to your liking. Now this recipe rock kicks a**!

    I love brussel sprouts, this recipe was inedible. I threw the entire pot away (double the recipe for Thanksgiving. Something was wrong with Rachel's palate when she cooked up this recipe. IT'S AWFUL!!!!!!!!!

    These tasted ok when we took them off the stove, nothing great, but nice enough. It took us about 30 mins to actually get to the eating part, by then they were GREAT! I didn't have the mustard seeds, so I just used a bit of Ground Mustard, and it came out just fine, everything else I did as written. If you like the Brussel Sprouts, you should like this.

    I was really looking forward to this recipe. I bought celery salt and mustard seed just for this. But, neither my husband nor I could manage to choke these brussels sprouts down! What is that weird taste? Is it the tumeric? Or the mountain of celery salt? Yuck!

    This is a great recipe...even the Brussels Sprout non-fans should love it! I did not have tumeric so I did a google search on a substitute and found dry mustard which, I used and it was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to try it for a holiday dinner!

    Michael, really? You took the time to lament over the misspellings of others and yet you made three spelling errors yourself, in addition to incorrect word selection and incorrect punctuation.
    Let's review:
    Words you misspelled: love (llove, typographical (typogrpahical, misspelling (misspellint (the last two are deliciously ironic
    Words you misused: loose (as in "not tight" should have been lose (as in "not gain" Their (plural ownership should have been There
    There are too many punctuation problems to begin to discuss.
    This is a casual, friendly online community. Keep your snide "I'm better than everyone else" attitude to yourself next time.
    Poorly written English is not going to be the "death of a nation" as you so dramatically inquired. Turn your red pen on your own comment next time, and maybe consider how a general lack of civility and empathy might be a greater contributor to the "death of a nation."
    Oh, and I thought the recipe was pretty darn good, but I am always a big Brussels sprouts fan!

    What a great way to make brussels sprouts than just boiling and adding salt and pepper! We had company and they LOVED the recipe. Now my mom wants to try it!
