Just made this recipe after looking up how to use the ricotta I had in the fridge, I used what I had on hand. Stewed tomatoes, parsley instead of basil, only garlic no onion and no mozzarella, just Parmesan. The result was fantastic anyway. My picky 4 yr old ate it all!! I definitely see this as an easy dish for entertaining. Will definitely make again.

This is a great dish to make for a crowd....delicious, and won't break the bank! I added italian sausage and mushrooms (sauteed them up and added them to the mixture to give the dish more heartiness as a main dish. I didn't use canned crushed tomatoes b/c I couldn't find the flavored kind in "crushed". So, I just used jars of pasta sauce and it worked just fine. I served this with a simple green salad and garlic bread. Perfect! The nice thing about this recipe is you can make it the night before and heat it up right before you want to serve it.

I was VERY hesitant about making this recipe. I didn't see how a tomatoe based pasta sauce could blend well with pesto and ricota. I was happily surprised to find out tasty this was. It is a little bland which explains the pesto ( I can't imagine how much flavor it would lack with out it . It really does need an extra " KICK" but over all it wasn't a bad recipe. Esp for young children who don't have exquisite taste buds and rely on simple foods. Very simple, very unique, and tasty!

So appearantly I've been making a "pasta bake" wrong my whole life (Penne with marinara sauce topped with mozzarella. Never would have thought to add pesto and ricotta cheese. I'll be making it this way again!

The pasta sauce as it's written is a little bland. I added fresh oregano, fresh parsley, and a little crushed red pepper to it. A lot of black pepper helps too!

I also sliced the fresh mozzarella instead of trying to grate it. This is a great recipe, don't be afraid to doctor up the sauce for more flavor though!

Don't be deceived by this recipe. Very wordy but simple to make! Simplifying this one and adding to my ZipList recipe box! Very Delicious with the basil and fresh mozzarella!

Yum! I added some dried Italian herbs to the tomato/onion mixture and used sliced mozzarella rather than shredded, so it needed much longer under the broiler, but this was absolutely delicious and easy!

I hate when users change everything then declare it was great. However . . . I followed some user comments and: 1 added fresh oregano, 2 added mild Italian sausage, 3 used a smaller amount of Ricotta and generous amounts of Parmigiana but eliminated the Mozzarella, as it seemed too rich, 3 added a can of tomato sauce, 4 baked it with foil for 20 minutes at 375, then removed foil for 7 minutes. The result was a gigantic hit. The sausage gave it a little extra kick. The flavors of fresh basil and fresh oregano were great.

I think this is excellent! My teenage daughters do not like ricotta or onions (yet so I had to omit them, but even without, this is a really great tasting pasta that is quick to make. Have made it a few times and will definately be making it more often.

This was easy and delish. I made it in the morning with a shortcut. I used my Vitamix blender to make the sauce, and I used a dried seasoning blend of onions ( Tastefully Simple brand and Golden nuggets dried garlic instead of fresh. I whizzed the tomato sauces and the spices long enough for it to heat in the Vitamix, then at the very end, added my fresh basil for another pulse. I used high quality cheeses and pesto, and so the flavors are fantastic. I had a taste when I took it out of the oven. In the fridge it goes, and when the busy night is in full swing, I'll reheat this for a yummy meal. This is going in the regular rotation. As a vegetarian, I really appreciate the meatless entress. Thanks!
