I love this dish because it's a great way to get all the flavors of a comforting meal without spending 2 days in the kitchen like I would for Thanksgiving! Definitely easy to make and even easier to eat! The only change I made was omitting the hot sauce & adding in a sprinkle of brown sugar & cinnamon to the potatoes.

I added a few more vegetables than the recipe called for and would add even more the next time. Did not drain the turkey grease, but between the frozen vegetables and adding Arrowroot (instead of flour there was nothing to drain. The flavors were wonderful and the recipe makes enough for at least a second meal!

My husband and I found this recipe and thought it looked yummy! We did enjoy cooking it together, but the only mistake we found was with the instructions....it did not list to "drain the turkey meat" after cooking it, so it made the meal very runny. We did not add the banana to this meal. We did enjoy it and the combination of foods was very yummy. However, we will make sure to (1 drain the meat going forward (2 not use the banana (3 enjoy it!!!

I love trying new recipes and Rachael's are the best. However, I think this should be labeled intermediate. There are quite a few steps and a lot of ingredients. Some of the other reviews state that the recipe does not say when to add the gravy. It is in there, it's to be added with the turkey meat mixture before putting into the casserole. There was also a mention of the mistake of dicing or grating the onion. I figured it out this way.....would you really want to grate an onion? Not me, so I diced it.
So after many steps and many look-sees at the recipe, I did finish the meal. It was very good; my husband loved it. So I would and will defiantly make this again. I would love to serve this at a dinner party.

    Terrible recipe.
AFTER I made this recipe, I read the reviews. I didn't really read through the directions ahead of time. I trusted RR! Other posters pointed out the recipe mistakes, but there is something no one mentioned that I must. It never tells you to drain the fat off the turkey. If I had left the fat in the skillet, oh dear. It would have been worse. This dish came out too soupy, onions and celery were too raw, and the peas were cold. I did, however, LOVE the sweet potatoes. I would change this a bit and serve it as a side dish. (just the sweet potato part, that is

I will never make this again.

I put in everything this recipe called for minus 1/2 lb. of ground turkey and it turned out very well. I only found one mistake where she mentioned adding the shredded onion. Everything else seemed to work like it should. I think it was a good combination of different flavors that made it unique. I also thought it was very healthy. I use margarine instead of the butter and it's not that much of either for the whole dish. I used 93/7 ground turkey and I used 2% cheese on top. This is a great one-dish comfort food and also is easy on the budget.

This recipe is a disaster. We were craving thanksgiving dinner so I thought this might be a good last minute deal. No one liked it. The peas and banana made it too sweet. Ground turkey, ick! Maybe for dog food? If you want to do a Thanksgiving leftovers type thing, you'll have to actually use the leftovers. Don't try and compromise with this one. Don't try this one period.

I just made this dish and I'm disappointed in Rach... 1st of all, there are 2 mistakes in her instructions. I noticed that other reviewers noticed this but I'll point it out as well. She says to "dice the onion" but then says to "grate the onion with the carrots into the mixture." You can't grate a diced onion. Also, she left out when to add the flour/butter mixture to the meat. I realized to do this after the veggies cooked with the meat and before you spread the potatoes on top. My general opinion is that cheese does not go with sweet potatoes, so I left that out when I made it. I thought the banana was good in the sweet potatoes though, the 2 go together. I also found that 2 cups of stock with the flour was too much liquid and next time, I'd only use 1-1&1/2 cups of stock instead. Overall, it tasted good but you have to watch what you'r reading with this one.

Using leftovers from Thanksgiving reduced the amount of time spent in the kitchen. I did add the onion, celery and shredded carrots to the leftover turkey. I used less butter and added only 1/2 of a ripe banana in the leftover sweet potatoes. While that simmered I made my sauce (gravy and added that to the mixture. The grandchildren are very picky when it comes to food, especially mixing everything together. They actually had 2 helpings. I would definitely make this again.
