I was in the middle of making the stoup when I realized I didn't have any lemons for the gremolata. I omitted the anchovies and used the zest of a lime - came out delicious!

I ordinarily like Ray's "stoups" but this one was definitely not her best effort. I tried the soup with and without the gremolata and neither was up to snuff. Traditionally, gremolata contains garlic, parsley, and lemon zest. I haven't come across one that contains anchovies. I love anchovies but they weren't a welcome addition to this recipe.

The gray veal "dumplings" weren't very appealing either; the flavor was pretty bland and boring as well.

Ray's Italian Sub Stoup stands head and shoulders above this recipe. Give that one a shot! I substitute spicy Spanish chorizo for the pepperoni.

Simple. Delicious. The only two words needed to describe how my "stewp" came out.
Just like Raychel did it, mine was as simple to prepare and it made a big pot full.
I recommend this to anyone who wants to try something wonderful and different.

This is a very easy meal to make. It's very fragrant while cooking and very flavorful. For the dumplings, I used a mixture of beef, veal and pork which was tasty. And the gremolata gives the dish a real spark.

Make sure you have the Lemon Parsly topping..it makes all the difference...
Also make sure you have nutmeg in the meatballs...

The soup is super easy to make. When I make it next time, I will do the gremoulata without the anchovies. This was my first time cooking with anchovies, and I found that they made my soup smell fishy. I enjoyed the lemon, garlic and parsely infused throughout and will just use those next time.

Definitely season with salt and pepper when she says in the recipe; otherwise, the soup may come out a little bland.

The soup was great. I may have gotten some lemon rind in with the zest and it was a bit bitter. I will try it again.
