So disappointed in this recipe, as I was hoping to bring it to a superbowl party. I thought I would make it a purple velvet cake, for we are Raven's fans. So many things wrong with this recipe; too buttery, flat when baked, and salty to taste. Not exactly easy either. I followed it to a "T".

I tried this recipe w/o reading the reviews first, unfortunately and my cake was flat too. I never had a problem like this before. I thought there was an error in the recipe, but some people had success with it. However it tasted delicious.

I'm a trained chef and I love this cake! I don't know what the problem others have had. Maybe they missed the steps . This is like my grandmother used to make. Moist, rich and yummy. There is slot of frosting, but I remember when I used to watch Chez Ray, and we miss him Food Net, he decorated the cake with the frosting so that's why there is so much. This is the perfect cake, I made it again this weekend for the holiday! Chez Ray where r u????

This was probably the worst recipe I've ever tried. The cake was flat and greasy with no rise. Like other reviewers, I double-checked the freshness of the ingredients, especially, the baking soda and the cake flour. What a huge disappointment after spending so much money on the ingredients and time to prepare. How did this get posted on Food Network? Did anyone try this recipe first? I would not recommend it to anyone.

I bake many cakes and know the general rules so wasn't put off by some of the negative reviews regarding the cake being flat and greasy. But that's just the way mine turned out. It's about 1/2 inch thick and greasy. I tasted it and the flavor is good, but I think if you want to be confident about how it will turn out, especially if you have guests coming, try another recipe. I usually make the one from Magnolia Bakery cookbook (you can google it. Over twice as much flour. Not sure how this cake as the recipe is written could have turned out for anyone.

I have tried a few Red Velvet Cake Recipes...but this one is perfect. The cake itself is delicious, not to chocolaty, and the frosting is amazing. I have made this recipe twice for parties...and each time the guests went crazy for it!!! It is my new signature cake!

My stepdad's favorite cake is Red Velvet. I thought I'd try this one even though it had a few interesting reviews. It turned out great! We had a small party and everyone loved it. I only used half an ounce of red food coloring and it still turned out red. I also only used 3 cups of powdered sugar.

Delicious cake. This is the third recipe I tried from searching my favorite recipe sites. The only change I made was I used Paula Deen's Cream Cheese Frosting.

This is my favorite recipe, it has become my signature cake during the holiday season. This recipe can be easily doubled. I do modify the amount of food coloring in the cake. But This is my go to cake.
