I cut this recipe in half; (uh-oh, a half bottle of beer, what to do? served with the Creamy cheesy grits, and it was still plenty for my 3 big guys and myself PLUS lunch for my hubby the next day!
I have never cooked with turnips or parsnips before; who knew they were so tasty? Next time I will make the full recipe and freeze half. A little sweet with the sugar, paste and root vegetables, but that balanced nicely with the spicy jalapenos in the grits. I would probably use less sugar if serving with noodles or something more bland. Excellent meal- thanks PW!

This is the best beef stew I have ever had or made! The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the flavors were outstanding. I added some mushrooms, used potatoes instead of turnip (just because that's what I had and increased the amounts of veggies slightly. We love a lot of veggies! Served it over the Creamy Cheesy Grits recipe...Wow! Thanks Ree, for some GREAT recipes!

This is by far one of my favorite recipes! My whole family loved. The root vegetables were a great added ingredient. I also bought a chuck roast and cut it up myself. Will definitely add this to my rotation.
