I made this cake for a pre-Christmas dinner and it was a major success! Everyone raved about the cake and keep complimenting me, although I modestly accepted their compliments, I told everyone where I got the recipe and about the show. I didn't change a thing about the recipe and made it "as is" and it was literally the BEST chocolate cake I ever made and it was easy too. I'm actually making the cake again for my husband's birthday tomorrow, on his request, which makes me very happy because his favorite is German Chocolate and I would much rather have this chocolate cake.
I just love the Pioneer Women and DVR her show daily. I've made many of her recipes and they turn out just as good as they look on the show. Since my husband knows how addicted I am to the show, he bought me both of her cookbooks and her book for Christmas, he's a great husband! I'm sure he had an alterior motive for buying me the cookbooks... ;0

Wanted to make a chocolate cake on New Year's Eve, and I just happened to have all the ingredients on hand. I ended up halving the recipe. I cannot imagine making the entire cake unless you had a TON of people who will eat it. It is very rich and sticky. I prefer a flourless chocolate cake personally. After making it, I thought it seemed a bit bitter, even though I prefer dark or semi sweet chocolate. I was not crazy about it. The next morning, I decided to try a small slice and it was much better! My recommendation is to make it the day before serving. Also, the icing must be really cool to make it turn creamy. I tried before it got very cool and it was just room temp and it did not firm up. I put it back in the fridge and once it was cooler (not totally cold it whipped up nicely. This cake must be served with a glass of ice cold milk or a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a good cup of coffee.

This cake is the first scratch chocolate cake I ever baked. It is so easy to make and delicious. The frosting is unbelievable. After the first time, I used a combination of semi-sweet and milk-chocolate pieces for the frosting.

My daughter requested this cake for her fourth birthday, right down to the chocolate curls she saw on the show. The cake itself was delicious, but I must have overwhipped the ganache or something because it was a crumbly mess. Still tasted delicious, though!

This cake is awesome. I LOVE the Pioneer Woman. She is my 100% of the time go-to chef. I've cooked dozens of her recipes and not one has failed me. Love, Love, Love Ree!

This makes a huge cake! I don't have the regular 9inch cake pans. I have larger ones and I filled both of those up. I made one cake with the frosting and the other with a dusting of chocolate powder. Cakes were so moist and thick. This has to be my favorite chocolate cake recipe ever. Everyone I gave a slice to, wanted more and wanted the recipe.
