This dish has great flavor but WAY too much spice! We like spicy in our house but this was over the top!!! I would recommend adding only half the spice(s....maybe less. Will definitely make it again, but will taste it as I go.

These are very good. I'm not used to the pepper, as being from Texas, but I really enjoyed that kick of spice. Skillet cornbread for a side brought me back to my childhood & grandma's down home cookin'... Yum!

Ree comes through once again!! These are sooo tasty. I enjoyed it tons more than standard beef chili and it's probably healthier. I halved the recipe but you cant really half a ham hock so the whole ham hock probably gave it a double dose of flavor. I was getting worried that it wouldn't thicken up but it does during the final step!

the best beans I've ever made. I didn't add bell peppers, instead I
used celery. I sauted the onions, celery, and garlic. I also added a box of chicken stock, and some beef bouillon. I had a lot of ham bones left from a ham, so it was a very thick soup.

Spicy, but great! I didn't have a ham hock, but made the recipe with everything else. Turned out good without one, so I'm excited to try again with a hock.

I'm always on the prowl for another bean recipe and have tried many. I'm moving this one to the top of my list. This was excellent; spicy and very tasty. Probably will have this in the frig often.

I followed the direction exactly--except for a little less garlic. The beans turned out thick and delicous and definitely a recipe I'll make again and again. My picky grade schoolers practically licked their bowls!
