I love most of Ree's recipes, but not this one. My husband and I both thought they were very bland. Smelled great when cooking, but very disappointing.

These were so good. I followed directions almost exactly and they turned out really tasty. However, next time I'll cut back on the black pepper. They were soooo spicy I couldn't give them to my little kids. I had to add sour cream to cut the heat (I'm a wimp when it comes to heat though. I'll still give them a five star though 'cause the pepper is just a personal preference and no ding to Ree's recipe! I don't eat pork, so I used about a pound chunk of turkey ham and then broke it up into pieces at the end of the cooking :

Very good and easy. I did not have pinto beans in my pantry but had lima beans, I was hesitant, because of using lima vs. pinto, but they still turned out amazing. I can't wait to cook them again using pinto beans and comparing the two.

I saw this episode and I had to have these beans asap. Only problem was i had no dried beans or ham hock but, I did have canned pintos and all the spices. So, I followed the last part of the recipe with canned beans. I also made the corn bread from this episode and OMGoodness. Everything I was hoping for. Thank you for the recipes.

Very, very good. I am gluten and dairy free and this recipe will become a staple. BTW, I used Applegate Sunday Bacon instead of the hamhock.

We're bean lovers around here, so how could this recipe not satisfy? I made the recipe exactly to specifications, though I may have used more water than Ree does. As a result, it needed extra salt. I ended up shaking in some cumin powder just because my kids like it. These beans are super delicious and the house smells just fantastic! I am even thinking they would taste good if you accidentally dumped in some of your beer! And, beware this makes a lot of beans! Good thing they keep for a long while. A good recipe for company and definitely a keeper!
