Love this recipe for meatballs. The oat filler with milk as a binder instead of breadcrumbs with egg is genius! You don't even notice the oats after the meatballs are cooked. The recipe for the sauce is great as well, both tangy and sweet (like bbq sauce.

I made these for our annual 4th of July picnic and they went crazy over them. So, I made 180 of them and 144 vegetarian for 70 ladies for my retreat this coming weekend. I am sure they will love them. I forgot to dredge them in flour before I browned them, hope it won't change them. Will report back! Thank you PW

So yummy! I made mine twice as big (2 T, and since my oven isn't working, I made the sauce in a large skillet, added the meatballs after they were browned, and simmered them with the lid on until they were done. Maybe 10 minutes or so? I also added a bit of extra water in there so they wouldn't stick. And I'd forgotten about needing to chill them, but they worked fine anyway.

I prepared the meat last night, shaped the balls, and refrigerated overnight which helped a lot because the modifications that I had made, left the meat a tad soggy. To the meat, I added about 2 tbsp of seasoned bread crumbs along with the oats, as well as an egg, about 3 tbsp of maple syrup, and 1 1/2 tsp of garlic powder. For the sauce, I omitted 1/4 of the ketchup and replaced it with bbq sauce, instead of an onion added a shallot but I don't think that really changed much. I added a tad of garlic salt, 2 tbsp of vinegar along with 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar. About 3 tbsp of maple syrup, 3 tbsp of sugar, and 2 1/2 tbsp of soy sauce because I didn't have Worstershirshirsauce. And a ton of tabasco sauce. I agree with some of the reviews that it is just meatloaf meatballs but would make great hor dourves instead of those boring grape jelly ones. I think the modifications I made upped the flavor and they're quite complex. They're delicious.

I was excited about this but wont make it again as it was just rather ordinary. Based on the reviews many others like it but dont understand what there is to rave about... and i rave about lots of other rrecipes here :

If you decide to make it, i suggest making about 50% more sauce. additionally, I'd increase the spices.
